Help Factory Reset Question

Lurker
If I do a factory reset on my S4, will it eventually upgrade or will try to upgrade the firmware to the current one (Kit Kat)?
Thanks.

A Factory Data Reset does not change the Android firmware that you are on. Therefore, if you are currently on Jelly Bean, you will still be on Jelly Bean after the reset. See, here, for more details.

i dont believe the kitkat update came out for verizon just yet also. But no it wont try to upgrade you. You should get a notification of the OTA when available

I just mentioned verizon because i am waiting for the OTA. I was assuming. I may be wrong.

Samsung have over 100+ CSC/Product codes for firmwares worldwide for the S4, of which the USA has 6 or roughly the same number as Brazil alone. At this time there have only been around 60 KitKat updates for these codes which means that there are still 40+ updates still pending. See, 23 Galaxy S4 models - know yours? ;)

No matter what your carrier has done to your phone, or which carrier it is, or what country your in; a factory reset has nothing at all to do with OTA (Over The Air) updates. All a factory reset will do is wipe your phone of all your data except your media. Absolutely nothing else.

Your carrier (network), or if an unbranded SGS4, Samsung will provide an OTA update when it's ready.

To check, and get notifications of one is available, go to from a home screen, left soft/menu key>settings>general>about device(bottom of menu)select and updates is there. You can check manually and configure the device to let you know when an OTA is ready from there.
