Help Factory Reset

I have seen a lot in the battery section about doing a factory reset and getting increased battery life. Mine has not been great today so I was wondering if I do the reset do I need to back my data up or is there a way to reset without losing all of my phone memory.

I was having battery issues as well, I let the battery drain to zero and then charged it to 100% without turning it on and have seen a huge improvement. I have not done a reset yet because I have been happy with the battery life so far.

This is what I have been doing as part of my charging routine, granted I am only in my second full day with the phone, but like I said in another thread, I was getting this out of the Inspire and my biggest reason for moving over to the Atrix was the battery.
