Help "Failed- SD card unavailable" when download from txt

Ben1981

Lurker
Just received new galaxy s7 and have a 128gb sd card (samsung brand, one of the better ones after research). I can move files to the card on the phone and it generally seems to be working. HOWEVER when I received a picture in a text message and try to "save to phone", it won't let me download and says "Failed- SD card unavailable".

I tried formatting the sd card. Removing/replacing it physically, but no improvement. It otherwise seems to be working appropriately and is mounted. I'm at a loss what what to do, this is really annoying as I can't download to the card it seems. Any ideas???

If your phone has 6.x on it, the advice just given will most likely fix it for you.
Lollipop and Marshmallow both require us to give permissions to write to the SDcard.

I have a new LG G4 I just got. It worked fine when I used the stock google messenger app, but tried the message+ that came on my Verizon phone and got the same error. First search on google brought me here and it's fixed. Saved it to internal though not SD card as I wished. Anyone have a suggestion there. Can't a setting with in the Message+ app for storage location.
Anyway, main issue solved so thank you !!!!
