Help Failing Desire HD!

Ok, so im new to the world of android phones, using a desire HD, so dont have much idea what to do quite yet, however, my phone seems to be slowly dying around me since last weeks update to android 2.2.1!

First I noticed about it was new years eve (last night) when I saved a text message in my drafts, then tried to pull it back up again, now all I get is
"The application Messages (process com.android.mms) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again" and it shuts down messages.
After reading up on here and a couple of other forums, it seems to be a common bug with the new update that came out over xmas. Not too much of an issue though, and seems to be able to work around it by installing a couple of apps from the market.

So I head over to the market, and I can open the initial app, however, whenever I try to do anything on it, whether it be search, or tap an app to get some info, im now constantly getting
"The application Market (process com.android.vending) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again" and also crashes out!!
Earlier this evening, I had a notification of an update for something, but got the above message and then Dolphin Browser would no longer open.

Ive only had this phone a month, after waiting 2 months for it, and im starting to regret it now, as I cant access any draft messages which I use fairly often, nor can I get any apps on a system which is designed to get more apps to run smoothly!

All the suggestions ive seen online havnt worked if ive tried already, the only thing left seems to be a hard reset where I will lose all my data and settings, but even then some reports are saying even that doesnt sort the problems! Will the SD card get wiped in a hard reset too??
One thing mentioned has been to go into application settings, and to uninstall updates, but I dont see this option. Ive cleared cache and data to no affect, and the only other option is uninstall the market app!

Any help appreciated!

I am also having the same issue after android system update around Christmas 2010.. Does any one know any fix to this issue or workaround to access draft messages?

Hi,
after last firmware update my desire hd started force closing my message app. That was very frustrating when message app close right after you have started it. But, I just found out that there was 1 old conversation threat which has something to do that problem, cause i deleted it and after that no force close occured. Message has some special characters.

I still get force close when i try open drafts messages. Propably drafts are the true reason for force close.

The new update create chaos to me so I decided to downgrade back to the previous version. Works better then the new update.

The message app crashed can be fixed by backing up your messages (if you want them) using SMS Backup and Restore from the Market (or SMS Backup & Restore download for Android - Softpedia for those having issues with the Market), then deleting all messages using the same app, and restoring the backup.

The app doesn't backup the drafts folder, so the problem message is deleted and drafts become accessible.

It seems there are a lot of problems with this latest update, which is why HTC have removed the update. I suspect there will be an improved update soon, but if your DHD is already having these problems, HTC are probably going to recommend you do a factory reset before installing the fixed update when it's released.

Hi, I followed those previous instructions to download the "SMS backup and restore" app from the market, however it was not successful. I'm and still experiencing difficulty with my messages. I can open the app, but all of my threads have been deleted. I can click 'compose message' and that is when this notice pops up.
"The application messages )processcom.android.mms) has stopped unexpectedly. please try again."

I see a lot of people have had the same issue. Just wondering how you resolved this problem? I've spoken to HTC over the phone and i've reset my cache and data and still not working.
Very annoying!!!

If anyone can help me it would be greatly appreciated

Thanks!!

Hi, experienced the same problem. Messages crashed right after opening. The fix with the backup & restore app worked fine for me.

Thanks!

:)Solved my own problem with message app stopped. It appeared after my partner increased font size to largest.Default setting did the trick.Hope this helps others -not too simplistic.
