Failures

I had to buy my own cast iron for my mother wouldn't turn loose of her cookery for love nor money. It takes some time to temper and season a cast iron skillet or pot. It is the greatest thing to cook with once properly readied. I have a few skillets and a griddle and inherited my MIL's cast iron which had a couple of bean pots and a dutch oven that I didn't have. Sadly, the cookware has sat stored for years because we bought a glass top stove. The dang stove refuses to die. I hate it...HATE it!

What's wrong with a glasstop stove? Our cast iron cooks fine on it... and it's easy to clean.
When my stove was pretty darn new, the glass top broke. A factory repairman came out and said it broke because I had either used cast iron pots and pans on it or I had used a pot or skillet larger than the footprint of the burner. ( I had done both) He pointed out that it clearly voided the warranty but he would replace the top this time but don't do it again. My cast iron cookware and my larger than life pressure cooker have been stored since. Which was the culprit, I can't say. I highly suspect the pressure cooker. I miss using both though I now have a smaller pressure cooker which is perfect for the wife and I. My large family only consists of two now.

My kitchen is plumbed for gas and has the electrical service. We had a gas range to start with. It was an antique then and a nightmare to use. We've been electric since but I'm anxious to return to gas. Gas + cast iron makes for some fun and easy cooking.
