Root Farewell. Also I need your opinion!

Touchwiz isn't THAT bad :P My note has it...for now, until I flash a ROM later...

I still have my 3D just to flash roms with. And possibly turn it into an MP3 player with 3D photo capability...because why not?

That would be cool, but I cant listen to music on my 3D anymore. Whenever I plug my headphones in the phone randomly shuffles through songs, opens voice search and calls people... all at the same time.

I figure one will eventually replace my Triumph I was using as a Bat Phone. I set up Google Voice & Groove IP so it was still fully functional as long as I had wifi. Im having a hard time making the full on switch. On one hand I have a handfull of uncompleted projects going on with the Evo I would like to finish. Also CM seems to have some beef with supporting HTC ICS devices as there is not really any official support. On the other hand its like they signed some sort of contract with Samsung. Only issue I have is I'm not really a fan of Touchwiz at all so will need to do something about that before the Victory becomes my daily. Otherwise plan on sticking with the Evo for a bit longer. Got the Victory because G60 found it for me so cheap it was practically free. Definitely smother and faster but I have a hard time letting go. Funny thing is I'm part of the 10% of the population who cant see in 3D, like at all.

So you own a victory, but your still using your EVO? Sounds kind of pointless?

How do you figure that, basically the same processor, storage and even forgetting 3d, 5 mp cameras. Evo has a bigger, higher resolution screen, tons of roms and choice of recoveries and kernels. Samsung has better battery life but the Evo has dirt cheap extended batteries and the WiMAX vs LTE is totally dependent on your location. Oh, and your trying to make this point in the Evo forum.

Actually I would say not so much, was originally planning on picking up the s3 in a few months but the Victory was practically free so figured if I ended up hating the thing owe well no real loss. Besides that I have a few things I would still like to accomplish with CM10 I have already put many a moons working on along with a few other side projects I have had going on in the 6 month I owned my Evo. Not to say I don't plan on working on the Victory in the near future I just like finishing things I have already spent allot of time working on. So would consider it as about pointless as rebuilding a car to ware all thats left to finish up is installing a battery and then deciding at that point to just leave it in the garage and start on building another. Guessing battery would probably not be the last piece needed in building a car but I'm a city boy who couldn't have told you what petal was the break until I was about 22 so could have probably used a better example like building a bike from scratch and then deciding to never put a chain on the thing. Would also be surprised how relatively easy it is to reactivate a phone over on the VM Website when needed.

OK that was a tad confusing, so your saying you got the Victory because it was so cheap that there was really no loss? And then that you were planning on working on it but already had things you wanted to finish with the EVO so you didnt? And then some simile about building a car/bike.

Oh and speaking of that, what happened to Angry bean? Wasnt this g60's ROM?

Somewhat true, but we both know the processor inside the Victory is way more powerful than the one in the EVO. The Victory is much faster than the EVO even with a nice ROM on it.

Also there is WAY more LTE coverage than there is Wimax, I get no wimax in my area buut sprints LTE in my area is over 25mb/s down!

This isn't true, the Victory has a Qualcomm 8990, but it's the lite, not the Pro version, in Anandtech's benches it's better with power control and only about 15% to 20% faster, as far as WiMAX vs LTE, at this stage Sprint has almost identical numbers of POPS covered by both technologies, just in different areas, that's why I said it's location dependant. I have great WiMAX coverage where I live but unfortunately no NV love for me for at least 6-12 months, that's why almost 2 months ago when Virgin didn't have any replacement Evo's and offered me the Victory instead I refused, if I had LTE coverage it would have been a different story. :D

Both G60 and I had worked on the Rom together, was just his name on the thread. Changed the name on the thread after he moved on to the Victory and I decided to stick around as the Victory was a bit more pricey at the time and preferred the siii. He pretty much scored my Victory for me and had planned on working together again but because of coverage issues decided to go with another carrier in the end. We have pretty much been collaborating together for about the last year going back to the Triumph. So in other words I had planned on sticking with the Evo a bit longer until the Victory for the most part fell on my lap. Otherwise was just commenting on the intention or should I say point of your it being pointless quote and why I did not find it all that pointless for not wanting to finish what I have been working on before jumping ship entirely, if you get my point.

We have a Galaxy S3 at home (not mine) which has 8960 cpu like the Victory. I have done benchmarks comparing the two at the same frequency of 1.5 GHz. Linpack gives astonishingly 3X speed advantage to 8960 which, I think, is mainly due to the dual-channel memory bus of 8690 vs. single channel with 8660. The other benchmark, Quadrant, on the other hand is giving only 1.5x speed advantage to 8960. I think Quadrant is not that sensitive to memory bandwidth.

Looking at Galaxy S3, it is a definite upgrade to Evo V in every way. However I don't consider Victory an upgrade since I will be downgrading my screen which is more important to me than the CPU. After overclocking to 1.7, 8660 is also very smooth and I don't feel much difference in the fluidity of the interface with S3. But I will for sure feel the screen downgrade every time I look at Victory. I know because we also have Galaxy Reverb at home and its 4" 800x480 screen feels definitely more crampy compared to Evo V's 960x540 4.3" screen. I will only upgrade when I can afford the price of S3.

The SGS3 has the 8990 Plus and twice the ram, the Victory has the lite version of the 8990, you can't compare the 2 phones, even at the same clock.

Well the CPU should be important to you, especially if you want a larger higher res display. A phone with a big screen and high resolution would run like crap compared to similar phone with a smaller screen and lower res display.

I have no idea what is this 8990 cpu you are talking about since there is no MSM8990 CPU known to mankind.

The difference between MSM8960 Snapdragon S4 Pro and 8960 S4 Plus is Adreno 320 vs. 225. There is no other 8960, either Plus or Pro. Victory is Plus then. And Galaxy S3 we have here has 225. So Galaxy S3 is not Pro. That means it must be the same CPU with Victory, just different clock. Do you have a Galaxy S3 with Adreno 320. Please let me know because I will need to return this.

420 Rom I discontinued when I was cried to for having anthraxed packaged and I formatted my linux os with that source on without backup so.. Nah. Honestly it was stock Rom, deodexed, a few theme edits, new kernel, and alot of copy paste tweaks. And mobstergunz audio mods of course
