I'm not exactly sure what I've learned from this. The title of his video doesn't exactly match what he's talking about. At the end... I'm still wondering "Why does a cell phone look like it does?"
That's actually the one thing he seemed to get right. "Consumer preference" Your phone looks like it does because you bought it. If you make a phone that looks like that and it sells, then you're going to continue to make them look like that.
It's funny that you posted this today, because I was literally JUST thinking how far cell phone design has come. One of my first phones was this:

And that's actually kinda clunky and outdated by modern standards. Funny how times change.
(And I have to add... I remember getting the RAZR back when it was a hot thing. I actually got insurance on it because it was, quite literally, the nicest and most expensive thing I owned.)
