Fatality: 2020

Dave McCoy, founder of Mammoth Mountain, has died at 104 years old.

I must admit I was not familiar with McCoy, but news reports describe him as quite the visionary:

"In his hands, it grew from a downhill depot for friends to a profitable, debt-free operation of 3,000 workers and 4,000 acres of ski trails and lifts at Mammoth and June mountains, a mecca for generations of skiers and boarders

Mammoth was one of the three most visited ski resorts in 2018, drawing about 1.21 million skiers and boarders..."

RIP, Mr McCoy.

I know it's been over a month since the passing of Neil Peart, but I was recently reading a story, that kickstarted the old memory factory.

One night, many years ago. Many, many, years ago, I was at a county fair. There was a band playing, the more I listened to them, the more I thought, WOW!, this guy is a good drummer. A damn good drummer. I'm thinking, this is incredible, this might be the best drummer I have ever heard. How? How can somebody this good be stuck playing in some two-bit county fair? Naturally, I have to see this drummer. I wander through the crowd making my way towards the sound. The percolating anticipation of witnessing what might be the greatest drummer on Earth, was quickly defeated when I finally arrived at the stage to discover that it was actually 6 guys, each with 1 drum.

Speaking of Kellye Nakahara, we somehow missed the passing earlier this month of Gene Reynolds, co-creator of M*A*S*H. He was 96.

Reynolds was a six-time Emmy winner, directing and/or producing some of the best, and most beloved, TV shows of all time. Besides M*A*S*H, he also created Lou Grant, and started out acting when he was a child. His list of accomplishments is long and distinguished.

Here's to a long, productive life. RIP.

Ja'net DuBois, best known for her role as Willona on Good Times, has died. Although only 74, authorities have concluded that she died from natural causes.

DuBois was a fixture in most houses in the '70s, not only because of her acting, but also as the singer of the Movin' on Up theme song from The Jeffersons.

RIP, Ms DuBois, and thank you for being a part of my life for so many years.

Just saw the report, the Jeffersons and Good times were what great TV was all about rip Ms. DuBois:saddroid:

Oh, goodness, yet another actor has died: Esther Scott. She was only 66.

Although Scott had a prolific career, including a role in Boyz 'n the Hood, she was one of those actors everyone recognized, but didn't know her name.

RIP Ms Scott. You're in good company...

Wait what? I thought he was in his fourties, early fifties, not 90s gee.. Only saw him a few times in movies, and SNL skit ages ago,
as he was dubbed by Will Farrell if memory serves me right.

Joe Coulombe, aka “Trader Joe,” the man behind the like-named chain, has died at 89 following years of declining health.

RIP, Joe, and thanks for fair trading all those years.
When I read his obituary, I was surprised to learn that he opened the first Trader Joe's in Pasadena--when I was a child living there. I don't recall anything about it from back then.

I applaud him for his vision; from an LA Times article, he came to this conclusion: "Target well-educated, well-traveled — but less-than-affluent — consumers who have more sophisticated and diverse tastes in food and drink."

I've driven past the original, still operating store on Arroyo Parkway a million times--never realizing its importance as the first store!

RIP, Mr Coulombe, and thanks for creating a fun, happy workplace and shopping experience--and I hear that your vegan burger is the bomb!

Versatility is an understatement. My first exposure to him was with the First Edition and their song Just Dropped In (To See What Condition My Condition Was In) A completely different genre from songs like Reuben James, Coward Of The County, Ruby Don't Take Your Love To Town, and The Gambler. All were quality songs that many enjoyed but quite diverse. RIP and thanks for the tunes.

Just saw the news about Kenny Rogers:(:saddroid::thumbsdowndroid: , his movie six pack was the fourth movie I saw in a theater , truly a legend, his song "the greatest" is one of my favorites rip

I grew up listening to him with my single mom. Jeez I can't remember the songs, but when one comes on I can sing a long word for word.

I just saw the news that country singer Joe Diffie is dead at 61 as result of complications from the Corona virus , :(:saddroid::thumbsdowndroid:
Rest in peace Mr. Diffe.

I was just going to post about this. What Ms Johnson did was nothing short of amazing. I'm in awe of her intelligence and ability. May she rest in peace.
Hidden Figures is such an excellent movie, I have seen it on different occasions, I was the first one who saw the trailer, and my sister glanced her eyes on my phone, we went to the local Stop and Shop to pick it up with groceries too, it is an amazing movie :D
