Root Favorite Kernel with Virtuous?

Can you please post your settings in SetCPU ? I am running the same ROM and Kernel as you and have no idea how to set them up right with SetCPU.

The priority numbers are completely arbitrary, just as long as they're in this order. From what I've read from others, I think my settings are overkill, but here goes:

  • Priority 100: Temp > 48.4C - 499 max / 245 min - powersave (to prevent overheating above 120F when using GPS on a hot day)
  • Priority 98: Temp > 44.6C - 576 max / 245 min - conservative
  • Priority 70: Screen Off - 384 max / 245 min - conservative (had issues with frequencies lower than these and/or with powersave)
  • Priority 61: Charging AC/Full - 998 max / 245 min - ondemand
  • Priority 60: Charging/Full - 768 max / 245 min - conservative (allows for charging while running gps/navigation on unknown ma-rating charger)
  • Priority 59: Charging USB/Full - 768 max / 245 min conservative (same as Charging/Full for my other charger)
  • Priority 50: Battery < 26% - 576 max / 245 min conservative
  • Priority 49: Battery < 51% - 614 max / 245 min conservative
  • Priority 48: Battery < 100% - 768 max / 245 min conservative

Like i said before, most of its probably overkill, but I think more than anything, the Screen-Off profile and running conservative scaling whenever possible makes the biggest difference.

So i have Virtuous 3, and the custom kernal, but have no idea what to do now. haha. what do i need to do for customizing it and the making the battery life better?

download setcpu from the xda forums, I don't have a direct link.

the custom kernel is probably good, but there's also an experimental kernel that undervolts the processor on adrynalyne's website. I'm trying it out now.

Is the new stock kernel with 3.01 the same as the custom kernel v2? Reason I am asking is because I had Virtuous 2.7 with custom kernel, and I upgraded to 3.01 and the kernel seems unchanged. I did the full ROM.

I believe so. On his website it says "V2" but he says under Rom Manager it says "V1" and that's the only custom kernel on there.

I received my 3500ma ebay batteries yesterday, so I haven't been able to continue testing with different kernals with my Seidio 1750.

Right now with Virtuous 3.0.1, Adrynalyne Experimental UV kernal, I have 64% battery life remaining. 18 hours up time, 2 hours wake time + additional 1hr30min phone calls, 3g/wifi & sync on the entire time, streamed about a half hour of music, and drove through an area with no service for about 2 hours (radios still on). I'm pleased with it so far.

After I have my fill of messing with these new batteries (or whenever they stop working based on their reputation) I'll go back to the 1750 and try out some other kernals/radios.

EDIT: using same setCPU profiles mentioned earlier

What's the result? Yay or nay?

The experimental kernel ate my battery for breakfast. I've never seen a battery drain before my very eyes. Immediately flashed KK #5 and all is back to normal. Even the custom adrynalyne on Virtuous 3.0.1 was not good for me. Running Uncommon now stock radio, kk #5, and it's looking really good.

Thats weird that it has such a drastically different effect on some devices. What is the main factor do you think? apps? usage?

What ever the custom kernel was for virtuous before 3.0.1 and adrynalyne was pretty good for me. The adrynalyne didn't improve battery life for me neither.

That is the question. I don't think it's usage because I pretty much have consistent stuff I do. I know that if there is a app that keeps my phone awake vs. uptime then I'm screwed, battery drops like a rock even with setcpu at 245 screen off. I just can't figure it out. But bumping the battery is major for me. Maybe it's time to stop playing with roms and kernels too and just settle on one that I like. (Fat chance)
