I know this topic has been covered quite a few times, seeing as though it's a problem for most...
If like me you have FB "friends" only to play games, you don't want these people in your phone list, especially as most of them live overseas and the screen is so sensitive, you don't want to accidentally call them when they're fast asleep at 3 in the morning!!
I have been battling this problem for the past 3 weeks, following other peoples steps, posted on here, but they just weren't working for me.... believe me guys, I tried everything, to the point I was thinking of doing a hard reset!!
Anyways, I accidentally came across a post yesterday and it worked for me, so I thought I'd share for those who have tried everything else but to no avail:
FIRSTLY REMOVE YOUR FRIEND STREAM WIDGET IF YOU HAVE IT
MENU > SETTINGS > ACCOUNTS & SYNC
Remove your facebook accounts (I have 2, facebook app and facebook for HTC) > CLICK THE ACCOUNT > REMOVE ACCOUNT
GO BACK TO SYNC & ACCOUNTS > UNTICK AUTO SYNC > UNTICK BACKGROUND DATA
ADD YOUR ACCOUNTS BACK ON > ADD ACCOUNT > TAP THE ACCOUNTS TO ADD
GO TO WIRELESS & NETWORKS (UNDER MAIN MENU) > TICK AIRPLANE MODE (ALL WI-FI IS TURNED OFF)
GO BACK TO ACCOUNTS & SYNC > TURN ON AUTO SYNC & BACKGROUND DATA > GO TO FACEBOOK ACCOUNTS (UNDER ACC & SYNC) AND UNTICK SYNC CONTACTS (LIVE FEED SHOULD STILL BE TICKED)
GO BACK TO WIRELESS & NETWORKS > UNTICK AIRPLANE MODE
You can now add your friend stream widget back on
This method would now be syncing everything else, except sync contacts. Check under your phone list, your FB contacts will now have gone.
The only downside I've noticed, if you have to restart your phone for any reason, it restarts all apps, hence it will start to sync.. this I can't figure out, but at least it's fixed the problem
