Help feature questions

lobserve

Lurker
Hi, I was playing with the Galaxy s3 at the ATT store and I was unsure about a few features. If current owners could answer a couple of questions I would appreciate it.

  1. Is there vibration (haptic?) feedback on the touchscreen when texting? I could not make it vibrate, except for the softkeys.
  2. Does the text on a webpage reformat when you pinch zoom? I could pinch zoom but then I had to scroll left to right. Is there an option to automatically reformat web pages?
  3. How good is the sound and mic quality for phone calls? My current phone is actually a terrible "phone" as the speaker is horrible and no one can understand me on the other end. I would like a smartphone that was actually good at making phone calls.

Any help with these questions would be appreciated

Hello lobserv!
I can answer a couple of your questions there:)
Yes, the haptic feedback could be set when texting depending on the keyboard settings and the settings on the device.

Text on webpage? Not sure...when I pinch/zoom, I have to scroll right/left etc to see the text, but I'm not sure what you mean by the text reformatting :(

My mic/speaker is good for me. Now that may be a matter of differing opinions ya know? :p

Hope that helps a little anyways :)

1. Yes you can turn this on and off on the Samsung and other keyboards.
2. I always used to think it did, but checking now Chrome doesnt seem to auto-fit. I hadn't noticed that in the year or so I've been using Chrome.. You could always use a different browser, I just tested in Firefox and it has the auto-fit setting.
3. Superb; I can be in a loud club and still hear fine, and the other person can hear me fine. This was something I was actually very surprised about as I have a tendency to mumble on the phone

What the others said and also, its a smartphone so you arent stuck with the stock web browser and because its Android, you can set a 3rd party browser as default. ive never used the Samsung browser tbh but the browsers i do use work well at adjusting the text layout when i zoom in (after zooming in, double-tap the screen if it doesnt automaticly adjust) :)

Do a search on here for browsers as you will find loads of posts with various opinions. My own favourite is Boat browser that handles text reformatting perfectly, zoom in as much as you want and the text resizes to fit screen. Good luck.

It depends on the keyboard. Some keyboards have this option. I use SwiftKey and it has haptic feedback.

This feature is browser dependent. My old HTC phone's browser did that, but none of the browsers on my SGS3 does.

I have never had any issues with the speaker or mic on my SGS3.

The stock browser is actually one of the best when it comes to text wrapping. I use Dolphin on my S3 and Firefox on my Nexus 7, Chrome is still choppy and unstable for some reasons. All three of them auto-fit the text. However, both Chrome and Firefox do it differently compared to the stock one. In fact, they tend to increase the font size too.
