Help Few Noob Questions deleting programs

Hey Cool site! Hope you can help me with some problems I've been looking everywhere for answer

How do i delete programs? The only programs i've been able to delete are the ones i've installed The programs i will like to delete are programs such as socail hub music hub etc In other words the useless programs that are preinstalled with the phone Many of them are of no use to me.

Additionally how do i delete shortcurts on my desktop (the first screen) And how do i mobilize the icons

Last question does free apps with ads use a lot more battery than the paid apps with no ads Just wondering if i could save a great deal of battery by eg upgrading my free wordfeud to the paid version?

best regards

PS
site wouldnt let me post said i was trying to link stuff so i had to remove all commas and such hope its readable

Welcome to the forums, SweetLou88. Great of you to join up. :)

Most of the included apps/widgets in stock Android devices can only be removed or frozen once rooted ("jailbroken"). Rooting allows access to system files and services, etc. A bit dangerous if you don't know what you're doing.

There are instructions and tutorials in the All Things Root section for each device here.. here is that area for your device, if you're interested in considering doing a root exploit:

As the previous poster said, you need to root to be able to uninstall apps that came with the phone originally. Although I've read that Ice-Cream Sandwich will allow you to disable those apps.

I am using Go Launcher so my advice for moving and deleting might not be 100% right since I suspect you are using stock which is the TW Launcher. For deleting icons in homescreens, just long press on the icon and drag it to the dustbin icon. For moving, its the same. Long press then drag. Just drag it to the far left or right to move to different screens. If that doesn't work, you might have to tap the menu and then tap edit first.

As for ads.... I don't think it makes much of a difference. Its actually the data line that eats the battery. So, if the games do not require you to be connected, its actually useful to off the data line. It also stops the in-game adds at the same time.

Cheers

This is true. on ICS, if you go into settings>applications>all>select an app>click disable (the disable button replaces the uninstall button for user downloaded apps). Its as simple as that. They disappear from the app drawer and, as far as I know, are prevented from running.

The process for removing and deleting icons is the same in TW as Russell described for Go Launcher.

Thanks for the quality answers bros!

Sweet, disabling is possible - I hadn't notice that before. Although, the best will be to remove them entirely for space, but after I've disabled them, they are not eating any data or battery so I can live with just disabling them.

As far as rooting go, thanks for tip, but I would prefer to avoid it. Phone works great now imo, and I've managed "deleting" those useless programs so I see no reason for running that risk of ****ing my phone up and killing my gauranty - perhaps some other time :).

Argh! amazing with the 'hold-down-and-drag' tip that was just what I needed!
