Help File Management basics.....help!!!!

Up until l got my X10 last week I'd didn't know the first thing about android technology.... so to say I'm a newbie is an understatement!! I've spent hours scouring sites and forums and I'm slowly getting the hang of it, I've downloaded some great apps and have managed to completely customise my homescreen. One of the apps I've installed after coming across it time and time again in 'must have apps' and 'top 10 apps' lists is Astro File Manager. I know how to actually move and delete files etc using this app (by long pressing and selecting 'edit') but what I can't get my head around is what should I be moving where? Which files should be moved to my SDcard and which ones should be left? When I open the folders there's so many files with names I don't understand in places I don't understand and I don't know where to start!!!
Could somebody please explain the basics of files, folders, SDcards and how I should manage it all.......thankyou!!

basically and most importantly DO NOT delete anything unless you know exactly WHAT are you doing!
This is important even in sd card because it contains files of the system itself.
If you want to know exactly what are these files the best way is to reinstall the Android and nothing else and see what appears on the card immediately after an installation.

I will second that.. if you don't know, don't mess with it ;-)
I am one who doesn't know and havn't given it a second thought and havn't had any problems, in terms of running out of space etc. etc.

deleted some files off my pc and it took most of the night to rectify the problem

I think hes asking about locations of where things like apps reside. What folder do you put apps in, ringtones in etc. At least thats what Id like to know, lol I'm new also to Android and I am looking to where these things should get placed in the folder trees. I am very tech savvy, just wasn't sure where I should put some of these things.

I am tech savy but not that botherd with where everything is..everything goes wherever it wants to go LOL.. havn't had any problems so far.. I know some ppl keep it clean.. so will let them answer the Q.. good luck with guys

Hi.

Apps reside in system folders, so unless you root you won't have access to them anyway, but as already mentioned some apps put folders on the sd card but those should be obvious by their labels. In regards to your ringtones and notifications, create a folder called Media, in that folder create another called Media, and one called Pictures. In your pictures create one called Wallpaper, and in Media create 4 called...

Alarms
Notifications
Music
Ringtones

...then any tones put in them will show when you try to select them when setting them.

Thanks everyone.......it seems I don't really need this app after all, although I'll keep it installed for it's other functions. I'm using Folder Organiser to manage my apps and create shortcuts which I've found easy enough so I'll just stick with this and leave the complicated stuff to the people who know what they're doing!!
