Hi everyone,
I hope this applies to this forum because I have hundreds of many types of files and I'm trying to stay organized. I name my files so they stay in order. Such as;
File 01
File 02
File 03

My question may sound lame and laughable to some, but I cannot find an answer. My question is this - Let's say I delete File 32. That leaves a sequence of;
File 31
File 33
File 34

Is there a way to delete a file in the midst, that is among a sequential order of files without messing up the sequence or doing another batch renaming of all files? I hope what I'm asking is understandable. I'm also open to suggestions on the easiest way to name files. Thank you.

Did you post before finishing the question?

Edit: ok, found another copy with the full question. Merging threads.

Deleting a file won't mess up the sequence, in that they'll still display in order, but I don't know of a simple way of renaming so that there is no gap. Depends how often you do it - you might be able to do it with a terminal emulator and a shell script (which you'd have to edit appropriately for the file you remove), but as a one-off operation it will be quicker to do it by hand than write the script (especially since I'm guessing you aren't fluent in Linux shell scripts if the idea hasn't occurred to you). I should add that I've not tried such things on phone either, so don't know how good the support is, and you might hit problems with the KitKat SD security model if the files are on external SD.

How about the old "Basic" way of programming with lines (files) 10, 20, 30 etc.
Not sure if that helps or not but it's all I have.
I don't know of a file manager that will resequence the files for you when you delete one (if I'm understanding you properly) Sorry
