Help File Transfer Errors

Theridur

Lurker
I couldn't find any threads on this already, so I'll just ask:

I recently updated my Rogers Captivate to 2.2 via Kies. Before then, I could transfer files easily from my PC to the phone via USB mounting. Now I can't at all.

I hadn't tried to transfer anything for a few days after updating, but I just tried moving a file on today, and the phone won't let me. The same two drives still show up when I mount (though now the first one is the main storage instead of the second one like before).

The first thing I notice is that about half the folders are inaccessible, meaning the folder shows up on the drive, but when I try to open it, it says "please insert disk in drive G:". When I attempt to drag and drop my file into any folder, accessible or not, I get "error 0x80070057: the parameter is incorrect". This is the same for a .doc, .pdf., and ,jpg.

I tried mounting again, and this time Windows suggested that there were errors on the disk and recommended fixing them. First I said no, and it didn't do anything, but had the same problems. I then let it "fix them", and it simply deleted all the folders that were previously unopenable.....ok whatever....the apps associated with those folders still seem to work, and anything i manually transferred in before (music, ringtones) was still there. But the error persists.

I've also noticed that all but one of the photos on my phone (all .jpg) are unreadable by my pc, but viewable on my phone. Windows Media Gallery says the file format is unsupported, even though its .jpg.

I can transfer the file by bluetooth, and I can pull files *off* of my phone (except for the corrupt jpg's, which gives the same error above), but one file at a time by bluetooth is really inefficient, and not being able to transfer to my phone by USB is absurd.

Help?!?

Thanks Coriolis. At least Kies works well enough.

Is there any way to solve this via rooting, such as installing an unofficial OS or a ROM?
