Help file transfer problems with a Mac

I'm running OSX 10.8.1 and can connect using Android File Transfer app on mac and Galaxy S3.

1. Open Android File Transfer on mac
2. Pull down the GS3 notifications bar
3. Make sure the USB option you have selected is "Connected as a camera".

You should have full USB file access to the phone and external card from there.

tried several times, android file transfer box pops up and
says no android device found. tried MTP & Camera settings
and several USB cables. it doesn't work !

I 'fixed' my transfer problem by going from Verizon to AT & T. I can't explain why but plugging th Verizon phone into my Mac via USB just would not work (even with some of the software mentioned above). On a lark, I got an S3 on AT&T, plugged it in, bang, it worked. Now I can drag and drop as if it's a flash drive.

After the last one or 2 OSx 10.8.x updates I also can't use android file transfer

But my kies workaround Did work for a few so far

Have you tried it? see my posts above

Same problem here but a funny thing happened. When I initially downloaded AFT and connected the phone as above, it seemed to work fine. But when I tried to transfer files, it erred out and after that I kept getting the "no Android device found". Haven't been able to connect since.

Android file transfer will only work up to 10.6.8, a newer system than that and you're stuffed, it's down to Apple!

10.5 = Leopard
10.6 = Snow Leopard
10.7 = Lion
10.8 = Mountain Lion

sorry, i mis-spoke. i am running 10.7.2 lion. as stated before, i can see all sub-folders with different browsers

This is really good to hear because I think I am still on Leopard. I plan on getting the Galaxy S3.

My phone has firmware 4.1.1 and I'm using Mountain Lion

the latest KIES works with the versions above.

I can transfer files, but I want to mount the SD as a Mass Storage device, so I can see it in Aperture and connect is to me car stereo as a standard USB drive.

:mad:

Anymore ideas on connecting an s3 to a mac? I've tried MTP, and PTP, with and without USB debug mode, and with android file transfer installed - all I get from AFT is "no android device found". With PTP iphoto opens, but the iphoto shows zero files. The MAC has OS X 10.8.2 and the S3 (R530UVXLG4) runs Android 4.0.4. I dumped Windows for the MAC for less frustration. I dumped Blackberry for the S3 and am more frustrated.

Had the same problem. Turns out that KIES for MAC will work although it is not obvious from the interface. Don't use USB Debugging for KIES. There is an "Internal Storage" link on the right side that will pop up a window with the file system of the phone. You can then drag and drop files both ways. AirDroid will also work and is a nice wireless solution.

My S3 doesn't pop up on my Macbook Pro either. My Evo did when I plugged in the usb cable. I'm using OSX 10.6.8.

Well Guys, I have tried kies, wont work, file transfer, wont work. I am using osx mountain lion everything was working great until i had phone update then that was it. nothing, nout, zilch. S.F.A. It would have been nice to be told that if you update this may cause problems. Very annoyed with Samsung and Google, VERY UNPROFESSIONAL as far as i am concerned. Wish I had kept my Iphone now. What a stupid mistake i have made.
cheers

A similar but different question from a Mac and S3 user that is fairly illiterate in all this.

I use Android file transfer, easytether, and Missing Sync and have had absolutely no issues in setup or being able to do everything I want between the phone and Mac. Clearly, there is something I lucked into between my phone and my Mac. However, from this thread, there is clearly some combination that does not work.

My question to you smarties. Is there a common theme of failure that I need to make sure I don't inadvertently create; such as stay at my current mac version (10.6.8). My phone is a business phone; I can not lose this connection due to some silly mistake on my part.

Thanks for any guidance,
Mike

yes it seems like staying at 10.6.8 is the safest thing for you, wont work for me on 10.7.4 or 10.8.2

I'm having the same issues and a few others which I am working through. I think the bottom line for us is that Samsung is not making Kies compatible with the 10.8.x (latest release of the Mac OS, I forget what cat they named it after). Android/Google is similar in concept to iCloud/iPhone. I think I'm going to finally give Apple the pitch though 'cause Windows 7 is a pretty stable platform and I don't need the headaches.

The S3 will not simply mount to iOS 10.8.x like it does to Windows. Haven't tried Parallels yet but I'm betting that works.

New version of Kies is available for 10.8.
