Android Question

Can anyone recommend a file transfer program from PC to Android via Wi-Fi that can be initiated from the Android without any passwords, all on a Wi-Fi LAN?

Thanks for your attention.

Doesn't fit. It requires passwords. Perhaps I need an app in the PC as well as one in the Android. Do you know of such a pair?

I thought that was how airdroid works? From my short stint with it, i installed the app and a PC component to communicate with the app. I don't remember a password being required to transfer files each time...

You could also try Pushbullet. Those are the only two I'm familiar with.

I've never seen AirDroid require passwords. Obviously the phone has to be unlocked to start the app, and to accept the PC connection, but that's it. Unless the OP has some over zealous security app doing it?

However AirDroid does require an account and password if you're using their online cloud services, but I've never done that. Always used just WiFi with it in local mode.

The "PC component" for AirDroid is only a browser, like Firefox, Chrome, IE, Edge, etc.

Let me explain a bit more. I want to invoke the app at the Android, display PC directories on the Android, download file(s) from the PC and terminate at the Android, if possible without fooling with any kind of security because all of this occurs strictly on my private LAN.

Airdroid doesn't work. First it insists on a password whenever I invoke its app on either the Android or the PC. Why? Neither machine requires a password for access. Second it allows me to "Send" from Android to PC but when I click File Transf, AirDroid Desktop and Receive in that order, it says "Nothing Here" and lets me designate a file to send to the PC. Assuming I can tolerate the password requirements (although I suspect this implies unwanted communication beyond my LAN), how do I get the Android to receive files from the PC?

Just installed and tried ZenIU/Asus File Manager. Sigh. It works fine if all I want to do is control the Android files but specifies no way to access the PC. Deleted them all. Now I'll try "PushBullet."

It's beginning to seem that I'll have to write both the PC and Android apps to get what I want. Can anyone say whether or not the Google Android SDK supports C?

Okay, Google offers this app: Chrome Remote Desktop. You do need chrome browser installed on the PC with an addon to communicate with the app. And it sounds like you have to set up a pin, but after the initial setup you can choose to bypass the pin entry.

Supposedly this is super simple to set up and use and from the sounds of it, will meet all of your requirements.

ummm,

did you make the C:\ drive on the PC a shared drive?
I did, and I can open up any folder on the PC that I want and copy from the PC to my phone with ASUS file manager.
it does work...

You only need to provide the PC's password once, ASUS remembers it.
