Help Files across USB are not visible

When my Hero is plugged into the desktop's USB port and Explorer says 'Removable Drive E:' opening E: says only 'Please insert a disk into drive E:'. The USB insertion is noticed but no files show in E:. Is this usual Android behaviour or have I missed something obvious?

Sounds like you haven't mounted it. There should be a notification when you connect the USB cable. Pull down the notification bar and mount it. Then you can actually use it as a removable drive on your PC.

Yeah - ok. There are a lot of threads out there trying to smoke out the right Windows USB driver - depends on the Windows version as well as the phone model.

Many say that by installing HTC Sync on the PC it solves the problem.

Maybe start there, if you haven't already.

When you say "using HTCSync" what exactly do you mean? Was the HTC Sync screen up and running on the PC? If so you have not the card mounted and instead you are in Sync mode. In order for Explorer to see your SD card as a drive Sync mode has to be off.
