Final answer on goldcards please

Greetings all

I am just after a final answer on goldcards, I have made 2 that both work (2GB and 16GB kingston's) to date I have had no problem with them either debranding/ unlocking my desire (orange UK) but with the latests update 2.29.405.5 I can't get it to work.

Tried RUU, Zip from bootloader and a bog standard OTA

Has HTC now blocked the use off Goldcards (CID error on the RUU, error 131) or is there another problem or more importantly work around.

Do the more knowledgable off you think this will become a problem when Gingerbread is finally released??

Cheers if you take the time to read this any replies or help greatfully accepted

There are loads of threads about the latest update you mention. Nobody has yet got it to work on rooted phones with goldcards yet. The only way anyone has successfully done it so far is by flashing the RUU but this of course wipes your phone.
You mention you have tried the RUU method so I'm not sure why that didn't work for you.

i updated from 2.29.405.2 to 2.29.405.5 with my goldcard and the RUU from shipped ROMs.

the .exe didn't work on Windows 7 for some reason so i used another PC with Vista and that worked first time.

Thanks for the reply, I am not sure why the ruu didn't work other than a cid error (131)
I know there are other threads but was hoping a Android/ HTC guru had some insight into the problem
Most threads are about unable to flash what I am interested to know is if anyone has a definitive reason why and if the goldcards method has seen its days and what more experienced members may think about the knock on effect when 2.3 is released

I am confused as I have debranded my handset but I have also purchased and unlocked my phone. For example upgraded from 2.1 to froyo ota with no problems, which should be right on a effectively sim free handset now.

If I was for example to return to a stock orange Rom with the branding and therefore not require a goldcard but use the sim unlock code should my handset then act as a branded but sim unlocked phone and therefore still receive standard ota updates ?

Worked using the OTA (there's a thread of it here, or you could extract it from .exe) on a rooted 2.09.405.8 Telus Desire with goldcard, I don't think I tried the Windows .exe. The trick was booting into clockworkmod and turning off signature check and applying the OTA manually.
