Finally a real review

Anyone else know how moto phones compare to htc? I'm happy with my evo and have an evo 3d on pre order and I do like the way sense 3.0 works, is there a reason to get a photon instead of an evo 3d?

Is that woman's hands really small, or does the phone look HUGE?

Really small hands. From the official dimensions on Motorola, should be very close in size to the EVO 4G or EVO 3D. Maybe even slightly sleaker because the edges are cropped to make a unique octogon type shape.

I gotta say I really like the look of this phone, it looks very unique compared to some phones I have seen, and has comparable specs to the evo 3d, if the evo 3d was not coming out I would get this phone for sure, looks like a winner!

The exterior looks great, and the specs are good. Overall, this should be a top-notch phone.

The biggest downer is Blur/Motoblur and the prospect of very slow updates. If it was pure Google, it would be a titan.

On a side note, I hope all these 4G devices are inspiring the devils at Clear to expand coverage to new cities and beef up coverage in existing areas.

As far as Motoblur (or whatever they're calling it now), that's really a moot point for me because I use LPP (and likely to switch to Go Launcher Ex, considering I found out about Colorized Widget App, that has similar widgets to LPP and HTC Sense). I personally feel like the 3rd party launchers allow for more customization than any of the stock launchers.

As for the updates, from what I have seen with other providers that have had top tier Motorola Android phones, updates have been pretty consistent and relatively fast. The original Droid (Verizon) took a little while to get Eclair, but only a few months after got Froyo. The Droid X just got updated to Gingerbread and before the EVO, even though the phone was released after the EVO was. As far as I've seen, if we're talking about stock updates, it seems as if Motorola and HTC have been consistent enough to keep their users up with the times and the most recent OS.

Wow. That phone looks incredible. Its like they took the best things from android, splashed in a bit of Evo, then added the dedicated camera button. Im very impressed. Glad I havent jumped on the E3D cart yet.

I agree. Actually, I've been waiting for Motorola to start making good android devices for Sprint. Early on, in my time with Sprint, Motorola had one of the best phones on Sprint (can't remember the model number). Once that was discontinued, they never really came back out with another one.

Had they released the Droid, Droid 2, or even upcoming Droid 3 on Sprint, that likely would've been my next phone instead of the EVO (just because I was a diehard qwerty keyboard guy). After really loving my EVO (w/ exception to my recent memory issues) and realizing that I was able to function with swype and no physical qwerty, I don't feel like I'll ever need one again!

Photon 4G has absolutely everything I wanted to be part of the specs for the original EVO. I'm really starting to get excited about picking up this phone, now that the EVO 3D has officially been released.

Drex, what is the current memory issue you're having? My friend is also having a "full memory" issue, but it actually shows that over 250 mb are being taken up by his email (Microsoft exchange server email)

Regarding the Motoblur on the Photon...
If I'm not mistaken it's going to come with Sprint ID, which takes the place of Motoblur, Sense, etc...correct?
I'm not familiar with Motoblur or Sprint ID either one, as my smart phone experience has been limited to HTC/Sense.
I haven't heard anything good or bad either one about Sprint ID.

I actually resolved it. Part of it was, Launcher Pro Plus had a bunch of cache memory stored up, but I couldn't figure out what was holding all the memory. So every time I used the back-up/restore function, it would load up all the cache, even though I deleted as much as I possibly could. The way I figured it out is when I hard reset the phone and reloaded all my apps and LPP settings, I had more than enough memory. I looked at the amount of memory that LPP was taking up and it wasn't anywhere near what it was prior to the hard reset.

Nontheless, I'm making it a habit of clearing out as much cache taken up on the phone's memory as possible to avoid this in the future.

Hope that helps.

here is a real hands on by me. just received this in the mail today. its a sexy phone!!!
