Finally caught up on these threads, my lingering issues

Whew, took me a long time to catch up on all these threads. I didn't want to post this until I had caught up in case someone had already posted a solution.

For what it's worth, here are my remaining issues:

  1. No way to enter in zip+4 into the zipcode field on contacts
  2. Is there a keyboard that doesn't require 10 presses to type http:// ?
  3. Google Voice volume is way too low, can hardly hear the person unless they almost yell. Confirmed by other users.
  4. Can't view jpg attachments in K-9 email. There's am [Open] button but nothing happens when you press it... it just depresses for a few moments, then comes back up without actually opening the image.
  5. audio/video sync issues when playing videos
  6. I have K-9 set up as my default email app. When I'm in the contacts list, and tap on the email address of someone, the box that pops up only gives me [Gmail] and [Message] as options, but not my default email app.
  7. Is there a way to re-arrange the app icons you've put into a folder?

Help appreciated... thanks. :)

2. I downloaded a couple before I settled on Ultra Keyboard. It costs a couple bucks but I was wanting the long-press capability of adding numbers without having to tab to the number screen, then back to letters to continue. It DOES lag slower than I type, but I just type fast. It's still better than 10 presses for http:// - it's 4 short presses and 3 long presses.

I don't use k9 so can't help ya there.

The keyboard on here does have long-press capability, or at least the Swype keyboard that I'm using does. I was able to type http:// just as you described, with 4 short presses and 3 long presses.

EDIT: It appears it is only the Swype keyboard that supports this, so the answer to the OP's question is yes, there is a keyboard that doesn't require 10 presses. In fact, http:// is in Swype's library, I just tried it, Swyping over h, t, t, p, then j which is also the colon and n which is also the slash, and it gave me http:// .

You can try TouchPal. It's in the marketplace. The only thing is that it shows up in chinese, but you can change the language to english in the settings. It has it's on dedicated key for http:// and you can get to it with 2 or 3 taps

The main issue I am having is why do SMS replies appear above the message I am replying to? I haven't found a way to change this and Handcent SMS seems way slower than the default client (regardless of what I read).

Instead of messages appearing:

1)My original message
2)Recipient's reply
3)My Reply

They appear as 1, 3, 2. It appears fine until I reply.

Why don't you just teach the http:// to swype? Then it just takes one tap ;)i can put in a password containing letters, numbers, and punctuation that usually takes 20 seconds on a touch screen... in 2 :)

Kak: Please don't hijack my thread. ;) Thanks. If you have your own questions, please start your own thread.

Numbers 3, 4, 5 and 6 are my biggest issues at the moment (well, aside from GPS but I know that's a dead-end for now).

Properly prefixing URLs with "http://" allows them to be better picked-up, identified and auto-linked by various clients and so on. And it's "the right thing to do". Besides, there's quite a difference between http://somehost.com and ftp://somehost.com ;)

Anyway, debating the "why" of it is rather besides the point. ;)
Not sure what difference it really makes. I've never used a browser that mistakenly took me to ftp instead of http. "The right thing to do" lol, haven't typed that out of necessity in like 10 years.

On a side note, if you're gonna be an anti-social blank-hole why even go on the forums???

Kak: Check the timestamp on your reply. Mine does that when it mistakenly thinks I sent the message before the reply due to some wonky timestamping. When it gets the times right, the order is right as well.

*sigh* Ok, stop getting so obsessed over #2 if you can't comprehend or respect the fact that some people in the course of what they do need to type it.

Anyone have any thoughts on numbers 3, 4, 5 and 6?
