Finally died

Zumaki

Android Enthusiast
I bought my Moment on the day Sprint released it. The first month was magical. Here I was with this new, shiny phone with an amazing screen, a keyboard, and it was running a (mostly) new and exciting OS. The next 3 months after that were an agony for me, combined with anger that the device was locked down by Sprint/Samsung for 'security reasons' but they were sitting on their hands about pushing updates or even simple bug fixes for the device. But summer rolled around and I finally got Eclair, and it was a second honeymoon.

I ended up rooting the phone, ran a few custom ROMs on it, and had a great time. But November came back around, and I was up for an upgrade. The Moment had done me wrong too many times, and the EVO was sexing me up with its youth, clean lines, slim body, and sexy new OS version. And I couldn't pass up the HUGE SCREEN. Oh baby. So, on I went. But The Moment was not thrown into the gutter - No! I found her someone who would take care of her.

My buddy loved the Moment, and had none of the issues I did. Partly because it was given to him with a custom ROM and fancy updates, and never had any major bugs to speak of. It served him well for several months, but tragically had to be retired last week: the charging port stopped working. As it turns out, putting it on the side of the phone was a bad idea, since it means every time you try to use the thing while charging it puts pressure on the port.

Sprint took the Moment back and gave my buddy a $25 credit for it, and now he too has an EVO.

But I wanted to post this thread as a goodbye to my first Android phone. Which, when I think about it, was pretty good to me. It was a tough little bugger, too.

This also means I'm done lurking on this board since I don't need to help my friend solve issues. So this is a goodbye to you, too. You're a good bunch, here. See you around!

I keep telling The Wife to be careful while charging. She's always putting strain on the cord/port. Hasn't broken yet, but you never know...

Anyway, congrats on the EVO to you [ihateyou] and your buddy [ihatehim]. I'm waiting patiently until March, or whenever my Moment actually dies or The Wife lets me get something new.

zumaki, i'm like you, i got my moment on release day and was in love for the first month. and even though it was buggy (but not nearly as bad as ppl were reporting on this forum), i justified it by telling myself all smartphones had bugs. i rooted, romed, kernaled, tweaked until i finally couldn't take the bugginess and got myself a evo shift. moved on to a evo3d now but the moment will always have a place in my heart as the phone that made me fall in love with android.

Good thread. I can take a negative attitude and say what a POS the Moment was...but I have to keep in mind it was in 2009, when Android was still relatively young. So in that context it was a great phone at that time. It's amazing how fast technology moves and the Moment became aged too quickly, partly due to the lack of Samsung / Sprint support.

R.I.P. Samsung Moment - your life was far too brief, and you were far too young when bigger and better came along.

RIP indeed. Sprint gave me $38 to sell my Moment back to them.
Best $38 i've made :p

Switched to a Nexus S....wow. Didn't realize what i'd been missing.

Zumaki, sorry to hear about its death. Like you, I bought mine the day it was released. Moment has left me cautious about Samsung devices. But looking back, between Hero and Moment, I think we made the right decision. Never considered Hero in 2009, but recently I had a chance to play with one for a couple of months. And, clearly, Moment was a better choice. :)
