FINALLY figured out music playlist sync on Captivate/Galaxy S!

Looks like a Tips and Tricks OP, even with some alternative methods posted.

Moved to the Tips and Tricks forum for y'all. ;)

Found out how to do sync my playlists with MediaMonkey to use with the native player on my T-Mobile Vibrant. Should work with the Captivate or any Galaxy S for that matter. I only tested this on my phone that has the 2.1 update 1 J16 Firmware on it.

What you need:
- A Galaxy S phone
- Stock Firmware with TouchWiz Home
- MediaMonkey Music software (MediaMonkey

I am synching with MediaMonkey riught now, and I use Launcher Pro.

All I did was to enable data transfer, not media. Both SD cards appear as distinct drive in My Computer. I told MM to synch to my external SD card et voil

Finally figured it out. had a hard time getting playlists to show on the stock media player when i synced it with wmp. there are many posting that shows you how to do this. i am very comfortable using wmp, and didn't want to learn how to use another program to sync my music. wmp got the music in there fine, but the playlist didn't show. the solution was to install winamp (free) from the app store. i will sync with wmp and play on my phone with winamp (didn't want to use winamp on my pc, because everything is still set up for wmp and media center). installed album cover dowloader and lyrics app(both free at app store) and i am a happy boy.

Simplest way to create playlist is to first clear all songs from "Recently Added" list, Copy the music to your "Music" folder which adds all songs to "Recently Added" list. Create a new playlist and add all files from "Recently added" list to the new playlist. DONE! so, keep in mind that you have to just clear the "Recently Added" list before creating a playlist. That's simple..

Thank you so much! I got iSyncrlite, (thank goodness there's a lite version!) and followed these instructions, and I am now listening to my favorite tunes (go Chicago!) on my Galaxy S. Once again, thank you SO much :).

Thank you for this post. I don't have to buy a new ipod touch now, because my playlists were always getting erased with winamp/songbird/media monkey/ musicbee, you name it. Only bad part is i have to switch over to itunes which i hate as a user interface

There is another way to create play lists with the Samsung music player

- add new music to phone; on phone open music player; go to playlists; recently added->menu->add to playlist; select all -> add to playlist -> create new playlist...

It makes sense once you try it.

The only downside is if your music collection is to big to fit on the phone and you are used to just syncing playlists; you need to change your habits.
On Galaxy Nexus you dont get the option to "select all"

The easy way to do it on a Mac without iTunes;
1. Download Andriod file transfer to your Mac
2. Plug in your Galaxy Nexus to your Mac
3. Open Android file transfer
4. Drag you music to the music folder
5. On the phone open the music app

in the music app you can create playlists and add to existing play lists......enjoy

Your solution is exactly what I've been trying to do, but I cannot figure out how to clear the recently added playlist without waiting the (ridiculous long) minimum time of 1 week... help!

I've been trying to figure this out for a while on my HTC Wildfire S. The built in music player does support m3u files, the problem seems to be getting it to recognise them when new ones have been added. I've found that restarting the phone is the only way to get it to recognise new playlists. Forcing a stop on the app and restarting it does not seem to be sufficient.

I find it frustrating, but at least it avoids installing an app for something so basic.

I hope this helps.

Have tried all of them. Doubletwist is the best way to sync your android and is the slickest app. It has best widget also. It will pull your playlists from Itunes or WMP. I use Windows Media Player to organize my playlist and for playback. It works best for me and allows me to use Windows Media Center to play on my Home Theater setup. I use MediaMonkey to organize (metadata, album art) because it is the most powerful music organizer. But, MM is a bit of a clunky beast to learn how to use. Itunes just sucks. Avoid it if you got a large library of questionably acquired music.

doubletwist is perhaps the best but it crashed after a few utilisations and I don't know why!... (Mac OS X Lion)

winamp is what I use. Works great!

Same here. And if you use Winamp on your PC to organize your music, you can create the playlists from there and then export the playlist to your Winamp app on your Captivate.

At least that's the theory. :D Haven't tried it myself yet. I don't really have enough music to go to the trouble.
