Finally Satisfied with Battery Life!!!

Instead of doing all that just download juice defender from the market and it will do all that for you!

The main reason I uninstalled Juice was because even though I was plugged in while on the internet it would for some reason would automatically shut down my internet if I was below 50% battery. Got a bit irritating having to quit and try to turn it back on because it would never just go back on. I had to go into Juice, disable it to get it to work normally again. Other than that I would have kept it.

Theres an option for that in Juice Defender. You have to disable the option that says disable all connections when battery reaches a certain point.

Now onto my post...

I have done everything humanly possible to conserve battery life. I have done every trick, downloaded juice defender, monitor my power usage, control apps , kill services, turn off data connection, and I am NOT satisfied with my battery life.

After having all this done after about 9 hours I have 60 percent left. Now for everyone reading this right now you are saying to yourself "what is this guy complaining about, that's a great run!" But let me tell you the kicker...I barely use my phone. I can describe my usage as lower than "light".

For the above battery run, my day's summary went like this: at 11 AM disconnected from charger after it says full...its actually at 97%. No Biggie. Throughout the course of the day I sent/received 16 messages, browsed the web for a total of 6 minutes, and the rest of that 9 hours was spent looking at the time, with screen still locked and turning off the screen after about 4 secs, and killing services to try to extend my battery life. No calls, no heavy usage, no streaming, no using any cool apps. Again everything is OFF and disabled. from my usage, this should be pretty close to being standby.

Yet after doing everything that has been described to do around the net, others have reported getting the same run or even more after moderate or even heavy usage. I dont get it.

Im a new user, so the forum doesnt allow me to post images, but I can tell you a few things, I do not suffer from the TWS bug, as my TWS is consistently under 6%. My screen brightness is at the absolute minimum, GPS, Bluetooth, 4g AND 3g is disabled. Autosync is disabled. Only like five apps have been downloaded, as this is a brand new epic. They are not running in the background, nor are their services. No Live wallpaper is used, only a pure black one.

There is only two things I can think of that could be causing an issue. One is that I have vibrate on for SMS, as most of the time im at work, but as I stated earlier, I only sent/received 16 messages total in 9 hours. And no one else has said anything about the vibrator draining battery. The other thing would be that my Epic is only 9 days old and I would have to "break" my battery in, but others have reported increased battery life in as little as 2 days of cycling their battery.

The best I can deduce is that with the above usage, my battery is draining at about 4% an hour. with the only real usage coming from texting and 6 minutes of web surfing, and with all the tweaks and settings in place that's, well, atrocious.

Obviously if I just stick to this usage Ill be fine, the thing is I have to disable essentially 95% of the phone just to have respectable usage. What if I want to watch some youtube videos during the day, or listen to music for a half an hour or so? from the looks of it I cant do that. After applying the tweaks that I have, others can, and obviously this phone is designed to do so.

And as if to add injury to insult, after the initial 9 hours, I made a one hour phone call (60 minutes) and the battery drained 20%. Like, really?

I know without images and such its hard to say whats the cause, but can anyone try and shed some light here? I really really hope is not a defective battery, as this is a new Epic, as well as the Epic is now EOL'ed with Sprint, so I dont want to go through the hassle of trying to get a replacement one.

I apologize for my long post and I thank anyone who has read it through to the end.

I'm a little embarrassed to ask this question, but how do I see what % is left on my battery? I am not rooted. Thanks

For Carolc,
There are a ton of nice little apps to monitor your battery and also show it in the status bar. Personally although it might be overkill I use two since I've been testing and tweaking my phone for the last 30+ days because I've had so many issues with it. I am a heavy phone user so I gave up on trying all the little tips and tricks to get more battery life out of my phone. I have yet to see a phone that had great battery life and I always end up buying an extended battery. I still do the common steps to help save battery life but nothing that will make my life with my phone a hassle, big or small. I think its just a waste that you spend money on a phone and you have to worry about your battery.

All the manufacture's are trying to make the slimmest phones out there so they are not going to stick in a big enough battery to keep everyone happy. They also make money with people buying extra or extended batteries so either way they win. For the casual user I can see wanting to do everything possible but as a power user I stopped wasting my time worrying about how much batter I have left and just keep an extra extended battery with me.

Carolc, here are the two I use 1) Battery Status 1.7mb and 2) Battery Notifier (Big Text) 172k. I also like using "Battery Dr Saver" for everything on there except the Task Killer. I don't believe in using task killers. I prefer to let the Android system deal with things. I'll use Task Managers, but not task killers. There are tons more and I'm sure everyone has their favorite but I really like these and they work very well.
