Finally upgraded to the Esteem

Insanecrane

Android Enthusiast
Well I finally upgraded to the Esteem a few days ago after helping a friend resolve an issue with his. I had a chance to "test drive" it so to speak and I was pretty happy with it's performance.

I know that everyone here has been saying it's a nice phone even unrooted, but I just had to mess around with one first hand.

Now all I need to do is root it and start trying out the roms I have been seeing on the forum here.

I see we have a great team over here like we had for the Optimus M(a lot of previous M users here, lol)

I have ordered the 3600mA battery with the back cover. My question is I know people are saying it's bulky and thicker but does anyone have pics they can post of them side by side to compare?

The extended battery isn't that bulky. I have it as well as the 1800Mah as well. The only reason I use the 1800mah instead of my 3000mah is because I like to have a case on my phone

I hate to say this but i feel like you should have waited for the LG connect. It is a better phone than the esteem overall. It has a duel core cpu and 1gb of ram.

The front facing camera in the esteem is slightly better and the screen a bit bigger but to me it doesn't compensate. The LG connect is probably going have better battery life. God knows it can't get worse than the esteem's battery.

I was kicking myself when i heard the LG connect was coming out.

LG connect is a joke. They will have a better phone out later in the year. I will never give up my 4.3inch screen.

What exactly is the joke about it? It has better specs than the esteem and the screen is pretty much the same size. The LG connect has a 4 inch screen. The processor is better and it has double the ram. You can't dismiss that.

I knew all about the LG Connect and quite honestly wasn't that impressed. Being dual core is the only spec that is even appealing and I doubt that it's going to have better battery life than the Esteem, but could be surprised.

LG will be pushing out more dual core(and likely a lot better) phones to Metro later this year. I don't need the "latest and greatest" I waited to buy my M until it was out a few months too.

Why? because waiting a few months accomplishes two things for me. 1)Rooting is usually available 2)Custom roms are out on the forums for them.

Its a joke because in a few months metro will have a better phone out with a better processor and better screen and HDMI.

Its not worth the upgrade.

My Esteem does everything I need it to do. Only thing that processor and ram is good for is games and I have my Xbox for that.

I do not regret purchasing my esteem.

Metro never upgrades the OS other then to fix bugs so the connect will most likely never get the ICS update.

The Connect is the biggest disappointment to come to metro. Only thing it has that's better then the Esteem is a dual core 1.2GHz processor and 512 more mb's of ram. The Esteem has a bigger screen, twice the amount of memory (the connect has 4gb which means only 2 will be usable) the Esteem has a 1.3mp compared to the 0.3mp VGA camera on the connect. Everything but the processor and extra 512mb of RAM the Esteem smashes on the Connect.

I agree that the memory in the Connect sucks but the screen difference is pretty insignificant and honestly how many times have you used the front facing camera on the esteem? I'm not an 12 year old shooting pictures of myself with the front facing camera and skype lags on my phone.

I like my esteem a lot but i would have probably gone with the Connect. I would like to see how good the battery will be.

If I'm paying for it I rather have a better front cam whether I use it everyday or not. I do use it 1-3 times a week to talk to my girl when she works the night shift just because she has nothing to do from 12am-6am but other then that I never use it.

Try Tango Video Calling.

Over all Esteem wins.

I needed an info from my LG optimums M. so i went on it. and man i can tell ya never going to a small screen ever again. LG esteem should have had the dual core. with that said. Every time metro take one step forward, they take two step back. why release such a powerful phone with other lack of features >?

I don't plan on getting another phone no time soon. I'm not into phones like that. now computer parts since i love to build em I'll grade n a heart beat. hopefully we'll get an esteem like phone down the line with dual core processor and the all the goodies we want

c is for cookie -- I am following this thread too and am almost deciding the esteem over the connect - the only thing I didn't like about the esteem was the form factor -== any good cases?
