Root Finally want to try custom ROMs...

Hi all!

So I've had my DX for over a year and enjoy having it rooted and all, but I finally want to give custom ROMs a try and just had a few quick questions...

I'm still on 4.5.596... I know an update just came out and it has a new radio in it. Should I SBF back to 340, install that update, then proceed to do a custom ROM??

I wanted to try out Liquid 2.6 since so many people here say great things about it. Is this COMPLETELY separate from Motorola's updates? As in, does it matter that the latest "fixes" from .602 aren't included yet?? Does the new radio even affect the phone once you put a new ROM on it?

Thanks so much, just wasn't sure how much Liquid will "overwrite" on the phone...!

P.S. - if there is something else you would like to suggest, please do!

You can sbf back to .340 and install just the radio update and you will then get the new radio without having to sbf back to .340 again to install Liquid. Here's a link to all of the radios in zip files to download, [RADIOS] All Baseband Updaters. As far as the radios effecting anything, it seems like opinions vary. After updating mine to the new .13 I can say that I've experienced better call quality and reception but you may not. But it's easy enough to try it and if it's not doing anything for you just flash back to an older one.

Liquid as well as all of the 2nd-init roms are completely separate from Moto's rom and as such don't have the particular quirks and problems associated with Moto's. However, they all have something that might not work. All are missing the widescreen feature of the Blur camera and HDMI out isn't working. You can find other camera's on the market that have a widescreen setting that will work, lgCamera is one, if you need it. And some will require you to flash Gapps or a separate fix zip, but Liquid isn't one of them. My suggestion would be to thoroughly check out any rom you're thinking about flashing to bone up on what others are saying about it, good and bad, so you're prepared for what may lie ahead. Personally, I've had no problems with Liquid and I highly recommend it. I've tried pretty much all of the 2nd-init roms and I always end up going back to Liquid, but someone on MIUI or CM7 might say the same. Just get in there, get dirty and see what works best for you. Have fun!
