Finger print reader/lock screen question

I always wonder what happens when you were out in the yard pounding nails and hit your thumb with the hammer. Point is, what do you do if the scanner won't recognize your finger?

These guys will be happy to graft you new thumbs:

Yep. Because that feature is just about built-in on most laptops that have fingerprint readers, I'm hoping that Motorola will include it as well. Or at least provide easy access for third party developers to implement it.
+1 I think that would be great and utilize the finger scanner to the max. I think this is one of the feature that really sells the phone for me. I hate inputting passwords into most things so this will simply make it easier for me to access password protected websites/apps.

Anyone know if the fingerprint reader will still work if you user a launcher to override Blur?

The fingerprint reader affects the lockscreen, custom launchers won't have an effect on that so it won't be an issue. The only way there could be a problem with the fingerprint reader is if we run a custom ROM that doesn't have the functionality baked in, but that's waaaay on the hypothetical there.

I would think the reader would be baked into the kernel (which we probably won't have access to) so to not implement it on a ROM would be Dev oversight-or laziness, whichever, the API's and info should be present...

I remember you asked the user MarcMaiden (who got it to try the Atrix 4G) the same question in this thread but he did not answer.

Maybe he did not test it.

sorry i missed this one,

it works as long as its the same finger. when you create a finger print lock code, you have to swipe your finger multiple times for the phone to get a good image of the finger. and because finger prints are symmetrical, you can do it either way.

That's great to hear :)

In one of the unboxing videos, he went through the process and it required both the left and right index fingers to be trained. I would think that you could swipe any finger any direction you want as long as you used it later the same way.

I hope it works in conjunction with the 8 digit password that my employer has imposed on my device. I've heard people say the swipe will work with 4 or 6 digit PINs...but what about my 8 digit alpha-numeric password?

anyone know if you can use the fingerprint reader from the opposite angle? say... if you're swiping from the front as opposed to the rear (like all the videos are showing)?

Yes it will work with a swipe in either direction. This is necessary so that you can unlock when the device is in a dock.
