Root Firebird 2v0.5

I flashed the cwm version using sgs kernel flaher with no problems.

Yes I flashed both the CWM and ODIN versions using SGS kernel flasher. Everything seems to be succesful except for the fact that it doesnt say anything about the custom kernel in the "about phone" menu

Really bizarre. I wonder why your phone does not show the same name for the kernel.

On another note, depending on what ROM you are running, you may not want to bother with the firebird kernel. I am running firefly, and the firebird kernel gave me horrible battery life as compared to the speedmod kernel.

I've given up on the issue. The only problem now is that I want to try another rom and or kernel but there are so many combinations out there, most of which have some known issues. Any suggestions regarding the combinations of roms and kernel that is stable and maximizes battery life? I dont really care about performance that much as long as its reasonable.

You only saw the base kernel number because you're running Cognition, which is a Captivate based ROM. Everyone else on here was running a modified I9000 Galaxy S ROM, which will show the name of the custom kernel as well. You did nothing wrong. If you flash Perception or something else, it will show the name.

As far as ROMs and kernels, so far I've stuck to DesignGears ROMs (Cognition and Perception), and they are both excellent. Firebird is a great kernel, but I mostly use the Speedmod kernel. Same features, regularly updated, good performance, and better battery life. Note that if you use Cognition with any I9000 kernel like Firebird or Speedmod, you MUST flash an I9000 modem as well or you will get static in calls.

People that are having problems flashing firebird first need to flash back to stock rom then flash firebird before you flash congnition or 2.2!
