Firefox ARMv6 Nightly &/Or Google Chrome

Anyone tried the Nightly builds of Firefox for ARMv6 on their V's? Curious what your experience has been. I've been using X-scope for a while now but have used Dolphin HD, Opera Mini, Miren, stock Froyo and Gingerbread browsers in the past and none of them ever seem 'quite' right to me.

Hell, I'm still waiting for Google Chrome for Android, anyone know when THAT's coming out?

Thanks.

Id almost say never, if they won't make chrome work on older O/S's why would they strip one down for just android???

Chrome for Android Beta
over at the Market.

Incompatible with the V... at the moment. I wonder if anyone over at XDA has ported this over yet for us rooted/rom users.

16MB??? Holy moly!!!

Besides, Google should have had a Chrome browser available for Android from the get-go. Otherwise, I can't see what Chrome Mobile does that Opera Mini Next doesn't already do. As far as mobile browsers go, that's the one to beat, IMO.

Have you?

As a 14 MB download (which almost certainly means it will take up even more space after installation), it may be too big for many non-rooted phones (at least to only try it). :(

Id avoid the guy posting that stuff on XDA, he originaly tried to pass it off as chrome, not a reskinned Miren, he is also posting he has flash 11 too, which folks have debunked as 10.3

gotta be a bigger reason then trying to look cool on a site with people more then capable of figuring it out.

He isn't pissed, merely passing on a warning. I've been playing with Nightly, and it's very much like Dolphin HD. I like it quite a bit.

yep and it makes me wonder what that guys game is???
he can't be that dumb to think a dev site wouldn't figure it out.

very very very fishy to me

Haven't checked/installed anything, but here goes - FireFox for ARMv6

Thank you, kind sir, for seeing my question and pointing me where I needed to go to find it. ;):D

It can be moved to the card. Takes up less than 2 on the phone. I haven't played with it much yet, but my first impression...it's clunky, IMO. If it were anything else I would've done my usual "if this app annoys me in any way in the first 10 mins of use, it's gone," but I'm going to give it a chance & see if it grows on me.

Personally, I'll wait for the next build before making it a daily driver. It offers nothing that Dolphin HD don't already have, and that's much more stable.

What about add-ons? E.g., Adblock Plus (an add-on, not a plug-in in the narrow sense) works just fine on FF 10.0.3 on Honeycomb 3.2. It’s the main reason I use FF on my HC tablet.

Gah, that's what I meant, add-ons. I can't even find AdBlock Plus. Doesn't come up in search. Someone else needs to be trying this because I'm obviously lost. :o

Edit, yeah, AdBlock is the main reason I only use FF on my laptop.

I poked around, and the amount of security and privacy plugins is pathetic. As in non-existent. I suppose that given a few months of development, things will look better. I certainly hope so, I know a lot of people who would benefit from this. It's truly lame that the only methods of blocking ads involve root access.

'Course I'm rooted, romed, and moded to oblivion, but that's not the point. It's the principal.

I use FF on my desktop and laptop machines. The SYNC feature is what really sold me. Does the ARMv6 version have the SYNC feature ?

Someone who's actually used the sync should probably answer this, but yes, it appears to. I haven't used it because I have way too many poorly organized bookmarks on my laptop & don't want all that on my phone...

And, my verdict as of today: It's too annoying for me to bother with trying to use this browser at this time. I'll keep it since I have the space and see if it improves, though. Honestly, it doesn't even render a single page I've tried in an acceptable way, IMO. Perhaps there's something I'm missing (again), but I'm done with it for now.
