If Kies is not detecting an upgrade then that will be the latest setup for your region+carrier.

However things have moved on greatly since KF3 (ie. KG?, Android 2.3.5 KH3, and now KI3)
Its up to you. If you want Kies to control it all for you then its your choice.
Otherwise if you want all the latest stuff then you will have to flash your firmware via Odin.

thanks for the quick reply

is it hard to do it through odin and do any of the new 2.3.4/2.3.5 improve battery life/usage?

No its not hard at all.
Guide

Supposedly, each later firmware release claims to gave got better and better with regard to battery life. (extra power saving features via menus, more efficient calls at kernel level etc etc.)

Thankyou very much!

ive found a download site for KG2 listed under vodafone uk, theres 2 listed though one is stock Kernel and the other has 3 files.....

If you want to remain carrier-branded then you can download from here but as your already checking via Kies then your most probably on the latest version for your region/carrier anyway.

The 5.11Mb file is just the kernel, the other is the firmware which includes the kernel. I strongly suggest you need the larger of the two files.

ive downloaded the larger file and it comes up with this when i try to extract it to my pc

drive s:?
are you on a network or something?
if so, have you permissions to write there?

Hawker you were spot on! i had to get the IT guy to give me permission.

One last question ive updated to KI4 2.3.4 firmware when i go into battery usage there seems to be more running before there used to be display then underneath used to be android OS at like 9% ive attatched a picture of what is running now will this cause greater battery drain or will the new firmware be less battery drain?
