Hi

Ive sent my S7 away to samsung in the hopes they would repair my firmware issue under warranty. Long story short samsung have a terrible warranty policy and I am no longer covered.

Anyway once my phone returns to me unrepaired (samsung want £92 to fix it) I was wondering if its possible to install it myself.

Ive done a bit of research and I know I need to install Odin and Im not sure which firmware I need (it is SM- G930F and the network is 3UK).

Im not an expert on these things so Im wondering if anyone has a detailed beginners guide for removing the firmware the reinstalling the correct version.

Im not sure which firmware I need (it is SM- G930F and the network is 3UK).

The 3UK firmware can be downloaded here. My understanding however is that 3 no longer network-lock their handsets, so you may require the generic unbranded firmware found here. Compare build numbers in Settings/About to be sure.

In my experience software issues i.e. corrupt OS, failed updates etc have always been dealt with promptly under warranty by Samsung, so I'm not sure why your device has been rejected.

Does it not really matter if its a 3UK firmware so long as I download one with the SMG930F?

Samsung have not been the most co-operative with their warranty. I was told because the phone has a tiny physical imperfection my warranty is void and they want £92 to fix the superficial physical damage before fixing the firmware issue.

Sincey warranty is void I might as well fix it myself if its not to hard.

By any chance do you have a full guide alongside the link to the correct firmware version

Not to the basic function of the device no, but you'll lose any custom features/software that the branded version includes. I've no experience of 3 devices so I don't know if that's an issue in this case.

That's standard practice, I'm afraid. Any obvious physical damage voids most manufacturer's warranties.

Your best bet for accurate advice is to post in the Galaxy S7 sub-forum. My last Samsung device was a Galaxy S2 so I'm well out of the loop wrt their current devices. ;)

If you still need help, I can try and walk you through the process using Smart Switch or Odin to reflash the stock firmware.

Im currently doing it now. ive installed and unzipped odin just waiting for the firmware to DL.

ive managed to find a guide here http://androidforums.com/threads/tu...re-on-a-32gb-galaxy-s7-at-t-sm-g930a.1109295/

im assuming the steps are the same just for a different version. The version Im downloading is suggested by slug from sammobile and im using version 3.12.3 of odin

As I said I'm well out of the loop, but from memory you should be able to simply flash the downloaded .tar as-is with Odin. Take note of Step 9 and double-check all options are unchecked; you really don't want to repartition your device, believe me! :(
