Root Firmware Missing?

I have a Captivate (AT&T) & have recently noticed somethiing peculiar regarding software updates.

When I go into Settings & select Software update, then click Check for update, it appears to timeout then says failed to connect to AT&T server.

If I click Resume update, it comes back & reports No firmware!

When I click About phone, it does show Firmware version 2.1-update1.

Any ideas?

AT&T hasn't put out an update for their Captivate and not sure if they will. That why a lot of owners are going to Custom ROMs based on 2.2 and some 2.3 updates that have been released to other Galaxy S phones which what a Captivate is. I too am new to all this and I sure someone can explain it better but if you want updated ROM you not getting one from AT&T any time soon it appears. I have went to Darky's Custom ROM

Thanks for the info. I do remember when I first got the phone (about a month ago) the ROM did update. I just don't get why it reads "no firmware." I'll check other sources.
