Firmware question and rooting problem, plz help

Hypeber

Newbie
After owning the galaxy s2 for a while, i decided to root the phone. Yesterday i actually used Odin to install the ICS but I dont like it. Today i was trying to reinstall the original gingerbread in there. I went to samsung website and dl these firmware but they are not the one i want. Some is for Orange Mobile, and some are in other languages. My question is which one should i dl, so i have the 2.3.6 international version(not Orange, etc.)

2nd, for rooting the phone, i did use the insecure file. When it restart, it did have the green trangle on it...but i never be able to start up the phone. I was unable to check if my phone was rooted.

please help?

Why do you want to root your phone if you just want the original (official) gingerbread? My advice would be to factory reset your phone. This gives you your stock firmware back. Then you can update officially over Kies. After all that, if you still want root, then you can re-root your phone (hopefully properly using the guides provided on xda, so you don't get a boot-hang).

You can remove the usb count with a usb jig. Check eBay for a SGS2 usb jig.

Yeah i did a factory reset by holding vol up home and power...it just put me back of the current firmware i using...it doesnt go all the way back to original firmware like how i bought it was.

I want to put back to the 2.3.6 if my rooting not working...i am still trying to make it work...i been working on it for like 3 hrs.

Really? I'm surprised it doesn't store the original for a rainy day :P

I'm not sure what you want. If you're in the UK, you have the International version. I'm guessing you want the unbranded carrier firmware. Check out the following link for a proper rooting guide and unbranded firmwares:

Thx!!! Anyway i got the correct after replying you. now i run into another problem. i succesfully rooter the phone. i dl the rom and flashed thr phone, however i cant get the clockwork recovery running. i cant instal cm7. I googled for an hr. tried something diffeeent and still not working"!

So you've rooted the phone and you're trying to install CM7 through clockworkmod? Did you use the CWM app or the volume up-Home-Power combo? When you root with CF-Root you should get a CWM app that you can use to reboot into clockwordmod recovery.
