Firmware Update - Keep The Heat on Samsung

Haven't heard much lately regarding this topic, I hope people don't let Samsung off the hook. We need to keep the pressure applied until something is delivered. What bothers me the most is, if the Epic has the GPS fix, why not the rest of us? Goes to prove that the GPS issue might still be being worked on and Samsung/Sprint are just trying to calm fears.

I hope the fix they are prepping to send is not a kit consisting of a GPS chip, micro screwdriver, micro soldering iron and DIY replacement guide.

Still would be better than how Apple handed their antennae issue. I think many would have been happy to see Steve Jobs give out a kit with a new antennae, screwdriver, soldering iron, and a small pamphlet that helps you out.

i don't know that we nessisarily need to keep the heat on. they will update it when its done. and at&t will take forever putting all the crapware on it, so even though the samsung release is said to be in september i highly doubt thats when we will see the official ota update.

lets all just wait for cm6.1 and forget samsungs/at&ts firmware updates

Official Froyo update rolling out to vanilla SGS via the Kies software as of this morning... Can't be long now...

Outstanding!

Too bad about all the custom UI/launchers/wrappers from the phone manufacturers (who shouldn't be in the OS development space) which slow down Android releases.

You know, this would be a good time for someone like Samsung to say "OK, Froyo is awesome, Android is easily customized, let's spare the end user TouchWiz and deploy a _standard_ 2.2 OS"

I realize that won't happen, just some wishful thinking out loud :)

Yeah, there are some posts about the GPS being more responsive, but like Rhi says, holding out for an official version is the smart move here. I srsly doubt they'd make a Captivate-compatible ROM based on this one anyhow, what w/the impending (allegedly) official release.
