Help Firmware Updates Toast mSD card?

Wow, really? My wifi doesn't notify me at all, when I'm away from a wifi connection that I haven't stored to remember. Still works just like I prefer (enable wifi whenever I want it on).

I keep WiFi turned on 24/7. With CO enabled it would connect to the best network but since I don't need what it thinks is best I leave it turned off.
Since the update my phone will try to jump from the network it's currently connected to one I'm no where near.

The only reason I'll know I'm not connected to my network is not being able to continue surfing and sure enough when I check it's trying to connect to a different network.

This is strange. The update really should not be touching the micro SD at all. Only thing I could imagine is if the card was in write mode as the phone rebooted for the install, but even then I'd hope the update would be smart enough to wait until the write was complete prior to rebooting, or cancel the write and then reboot. FWIW, I have had a 32gb sandisk in my phone since Jan 11 and have gone though 2 updates and not had any issues.

Might sound strange but it is what happened to me. 2 updates (at different times) both killing my cards.

Even though I've got one card working again my phone is constantly popping up sd card removed even with the phone sitting still on a table.

If a card is seen as RAW format, it's still salvagable. Though data recovery is a total pain in the butt and not guaranteed you'll get all your data back. The partition is hosed in this case and needs to be reformatted. I know from personal experience when my external HDD enclosure controller board gets fried it takes the HDD with it. Luckily, it goes to RAW format in which case, I can still retrieve some data (although not all of it). In most cases, it's not the HDD that is bad, but the hardware controller in the enclosure that messes things up.

I would probably have the phone checked for any hardware defects with the SD reader in the phone. That might be what's causing your issues (not the software). It could be a bad component that is causing it. Especially if it took out 2 cards and displaying odd behaviour with the salvaged one. Does the computer and other readers have issues with the card as well?

My sd cards were working flawlessly before both updates.
One card I was able to get working again. The other is now in RAW format and unrecoverable on any computer I put it in.

So you cannot reformat the card in RAW format? That's not typical behaviour. I've had some HDDs that went to RAW format and needed to be reformatted to get them back in working order. Windows will see it as a format that is not recognized and ask to format it. But before doing so, I run a recovery program to see what data can be seen and recovered.

Are you using a card reader with a SD card adapter? If using the adapter, check to see that the slider is not pushed into the lock position when sliding it into the adapter. I've had a few adapters I had to chuck because the lock slides were loose and easily pushed into lock position when putting into the card reader.

I have 3 Note 2s and all OTA updated to 4.1.2 and working fine at the moment. No real problems experienced. 32GB cards in them (Sandisk and Samsung). Mine is in exFAT format; the other 2 in FAT32. I also did ODIN stock ROM updates with my Note 10.1 (3-4 times) with no ill effects to the 32GB (Sandisk) card inside it. This is also in exFAT format.

sorry ScandaLeX,
though i did the 4.1.2 update so far twice and all the time Card is in also have the 32gb sandisk and nothing happend, Thank God.
Never had any problem with battery or Wifi and the update,my phone is the international unlocked version, seems i will do the update again coz of my haptic feadback issue which refusing to be sorted.

That's weird. I've flashed stock firmware on my Note 10.1 3-4 times with my 32GB (Sandisk) card in it using ODIN. No problems with it. Updated OTA my Note 2 with 32GB (Samsung) with no issues as well. I'll probably be more cautious now on any updates and make sure I remove the card prior to. Just to be on the safe side.

Why did you do the update for 3-4 times? have you had the haptic feadback issue, coz mine cant be turned off only when am reciving calls i still feel the vibration once i touch the screen to pick or reject

Sounds like that Connections Optimizer is enabled for you. Go into Settings>MoreSettings>Mobile networks>Connections Optimizer>Click Back Button when disclaimer pops up>Make sure that Connections Optimizer toggle is unchecked>Click Back Button

I've done this since day 1 and it has worked exactly like I wanted and wifi only turns on when I actually toggle it.

Never seen that option on my phone... wired

VZW subscriber here, so I'm still on 4.1.1. The only OTA update that came through was to fix the Exynos exploit. I didn't remove my class 10 microSD card at the time it updated and haven't had any issues with it. Seems a lot of issues have reared their head due to the 4.1.2 update - is the lesson to avoid this update like the plague or hope that VZW's agonizingly long update process actually pays dividends now and then?

LOL. I flashed German ROM onto my Note 10.1 because there was no JB update in my region. When my region received it, I checked other region ROMs to see if CSC code for Canada was in any of them. No such luck. Therefore I wasn't able to update the official ROM for my region. Until a kind user was able to upload the ROM in XDA. :)

Unfortunately, the official 4.1.2 ROM does work with very little issues or problems. Like I said, I have 3 Note 2s with the 4.1.2 updates. I have not run into any issues with any of them. There are certain bugs that are present, but with certain carriers. I tried duplicating some with no success. Which leads me to believe it is the device or the carrier 'broke' something while tweaking the ROM for their networks.

There seems to be a lot of problems looking at these postings I have had no issues or problems with Wifi or microSd card (32gb Samsung) after OTA updates, my phone is sim free P.A.Y.G. could it be something to do with your carriers

See this pic. This is what I get after updating to 4.1.2. Same memory card msg also when this phone got it's first update months ago.

ScandeLeX, I still think it could be something wrong with the hardware in your Note 2; particularly the SD card reader. Again, I think the updates might be exposing this critical flaw in the hardware. Maybe a hardware/driver incompatibility causing this issue.

I know bad controllers can damage and take out an array very quickly and with little warning. It's not fun, but does happen. Which is why running regular backups are important. Updates seem to be hit and miss with certain devices. In most cases, a factory reset usually fixes them. In other cases, it exposes a hardware flaw quickly and without warning.

I think in your case, it's a mix of both update and bad hardware that is causing this issue.

I had the same error before swapping for a new Note 2. Now no problems with my sd card

When I did the first update I started getting this msg. Putting in a new card; msg went away.
2nd update same thing. Only there is nothing wrong with my card now. I can play/see everything that's on it (for now)

Thanks Phases!!

Neo~ The thought of swapping my Note for another isn't exciting. Easier to just replace the card.

I know. I had to return a bad motherboard recently with a turn around time of approximately 10 days. At least I had the Note 10.1 to work with temporarily until the replacement arrived. But not having my main system during that time was 'painful'. Also got a refurbished board which is no joy.

I have to go out tomorrow. I'll be near a Sprint store so I'm going to stop in and let their tech take a look at it (which is all he may do.....look).

One of the main reasons why I didn't upgrade directly from sprint. With best buy insurance you tell them you're having issues they will give you a loaner or you can pay $50 for a smartphone similar in specs to the phone you have which will be refunded to use until your replacement comes in. No questions asked except what problem you're having.

If memory serves me correctly, the last phone BB made a huge priority was the Evo 4G. Unless you preordered you had a snowballs chance in hell of getting one on launch day.
After that nightmare I've never considered BB as my 1st choice.

Oh no I upgraded in January. Only thing is I wanted the Note in blue but all they had was white in stock.

I didn't want any color other than white but when I called around no Sprint store could give me a solid inventory answer.
I took my chances with the one store that opened 3 hrs earlier than the others.

My note 2 is coming in and I've been reading about about this sd card problem and it makes me hesitant to put my SanDisk 32gb card in. I've had it for a for over a year and I don't want it to die now lol. Hopefully it doesn't kill it.

I just cooked another Sandisk 32gb card tonight. Now I'm on my third card. I can't attribute the failure to anything though, both times it was just kinda random. I updated to 4.1.2 about a month ago and I haven't done anything out of the ordinary. Fortunately my stuff auto uploads to dropbox. I just lost one movie 'Lincoln vampire slayer.' Was the eh-hem 'tech' able to help you out?

I never took mine in to have looked at. The day I was near there they were completely crowded. I peeped in and walked out.

Just in case, you'd probably want to backup the data on that card so if something does go wrong, you won't lose anything. ;)

Out of curiosity, it does seem like the Sandisk 32GB cards are very 'flaky'; especially the dual-coloured red/gray cards. I have the full black coloured Sandisk ones in my Note 10.1 (formatted to exFAT) and another two of them in the other Note 2s (formatted in FAT32). I have a Samsung 32GB in my Note 2 (also formatted to exFAT) as well. No issues yet with any of them.
