Hey,
Today, I tried to update my Samsung Galaxy S2 (SGH-1727R) to ICS (Odin3 v.1.85), and when I ran the update Odin failed, my phone read "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies and try again" while in Odin mode, I re-installed kies (2.3.2.12054_18_2, windows 7 x64) and kies was unable to recognize my device (using the cable my device came with, and after using the troubleshooting), I then attempted to uninstall kies, and install the drivers to no avail. I then tried to enter recovery mode on my phone, and had no result, and when I attempt to reboot the system but it always results in re-entering Odin mode with the same message. Finally, I attempted to flash a stock onto my phone, with odin unable to recognize my device.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
EDIT: It appears my phone is in modem mode, still can't access recovery mode to switch out
EDIT 2: Stepped back my version of kies and phone can now be detected by Odin (still not kies)
EDIT 3: Tried the method from this thread, and got this result:

Not sure how to change thread titleDownload stock kernel in tar form from the Android devel forum. Start odin, click check box in PDA, click PDA button then select the kernel you just downloaded.
Insert usb into your phone (I left my cord connected to my computer). Start phone in download mode (up+down keys). Once it's started ib DL mode, unplug the usb cord, then after just a few moments plug it in again. If necessary, let it set a few moments until Odin recognizes the device (yellow stripe in id:com to the upper left), now click start in odin.
