Hello all!!

As you might already know from the title, i am a newbie. Just got an Atrix

Couple of questions.....

If I dl a widget, how do I make it appear in my main screen, and what is the difference between it and an app?

Whats the motoblur account for?

and finally......
I added my gmail account to the phone, and absolutely every contact on my email (most of which are garbage) are listed in my contact icon... how do I manage this setting so I dont have to see them all?

A Widget is a lot like an app in that it displays information from said app all the time. This may be in the for of information only (ie rss feed) or as a controller (ie music widget). To set a widget, longpress (hold your finger down) on an empty area. Once the list pops up, select widget, and from the widgets list select the widget you want to use.

No idea on the motoblur or the gmail accounts. I only have the people that I have actually added to my address book in my google account show up at all and have never changed any setting.

Welcome to the forum! :)
Probably, it would be better if you post in Atrix forum - Motorola Atrix 4G - Android Forums

Meanwhile, I'll just give you some answers.
If you have a widget installed in the phone, just tap and hold on an empty place on the screen and select Widget from menu. Now select the widget you want and you will have it on the homescreen. You can also place apps shortcuts on homescreen. The difference between two is that widgets are already running and providing you information, while the apps need first to be started.

Motoblur is an Android UI developed by Motorola. It is aimed at social networks and is meant to provide extra functionality over the purer Android UI. Some people (maybe most actually...) don't like it...

You can manage your contacts from Contacts application (accounts, import/export, display/hide).

Edit: Ah, didn't see the answer posted by lordofthereef...

Ahoy. I am new as well. I switched over from the iPhone 3GS to the Motorola atrix 4G. I just have to say that this phone is soo much more versatile. I absolutely love it.
