Root First attempt at rooting

holy shiza fellas!! so i downloaded that root checker after tinkering around in adb and it says i have root access..........OMG

See if superuser.apk loads. Even with full root via su on my phone, some apps won't load
wont let me install it still.
root explorer allows me to mount rw and ro if i delete an app it comes right back
titanium bu works great
move2sd enabler is gtg
setcpu works

I'd be willing to bet setCPU does not work, but says it is.
maybe.....when the apps check for superuser it doesnt pop up just grants it

ive never had good luck with setcpu on any phones, on the optimus i didnt think it worked at all

its very strange

something isnt right with it, its almost like ive fooled the system to thinking it had su...but it doesnt

says i can read write to system folder but it wont save changes :(

ok so i installed busybox from the market to my bin folder and root explorer is allowing me to mod the system folder now

What did you do RJsweesy? Even if its not perm root, lol being able to use titanium and root explorer would be nice.

Yeah it was letting me do all that after running the soup root when I was first trying to remove the bloatware. apps would have fake access to r/w /system

root explorer would say it mounted with r/w without me even having to tell i to mount with r/w. It would act like files could be deleted but just closing the app and loading it agian showed that the file was not being deleted.

as soon as you reboot the phone it will go back to the apps not showing r/w access.

The apps all get tricked into thinking they have r/w access but it still only lets you do stuff via adb.

The question I have is, why is adb able to gain access to the files after the temp root but the apps are unable to do the same?

maybe your on to something....
I just tried it out and got the same results as before only this time I tried the rootchecker that you said told you had root and that app is saying I'm not root.
Root explorer seems to be fooled and is giving me r/w but changes dont stick.

did you do perform a mount command with adb?
my apps start thinking they have r/w after performing "mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock4 /system"

so after doing some research i found that all the superuser.apk does is manage requests for superuser permission and also these things:
also the su file i used grants super user with no pop up
root explorer isnt all that reliable at deleting things
after i reboot i still have root access

I'm curious how you got su functional. The only way I could get it functional was a workaround with busybox as the original would just up and crash.

damn i need to keep up i havent checked the page in 2 days and it's like i missed the werld ;)

iPod v2 is coming out today can't wait to see what it's going to be like even though i have a idea (facetime with 2 cameras maybe a little thinner smaller) but that motorola xoom with the android 3.0 is so tight apple won't be able to touch that thing. too bad it's 800$. i messed around with it at bestbuy and i really like the 3.0 honeycomb

i was reading how to root the nexus s and this was one of the procedures

after i pushed su and busy box to both the bin and xbin i chmod 6775 all four entrys
did a shell reboot and pulled the battery

I was reading that Koush had rooted the Xoom....w/ Android 3.0.

Let's start a koush fund LOL.

(No disrespect to anyone intended, ya'll are way smarter than me)

http://androidforums.com/members/rjsweesy.htmlrjsweesy: Something doesn't add up as that was the first thing I did and su would constantly fail hence the route I went.

As for my compiling. I have the basic froyo image. I haven't had time to read what it takes to compile it to be clockwork mod compat nor have I had time to read the proper procedure to prepare it for an actual phone. If anyone wishes to point in the right direction I'd appreciate it otherwise I'll find the info when I have a few minutes at work.

*sigh*

My linux box decided to eat itself, although I'm still unsure how. In an attempt to install on top of itself I had an unsuable box. The android source of course is quite large and had no way to copy off what I had compiled. So.... I get to start back over.

that blows man, sorry to hear that

I was thinking may be the su apk can be updated to work on the Indulge. Insead of trying to get it to run as is.

Yeah but we are still not sure how the apk's are being blocked. Like the tethering apps that are being blocked, I tried one of the updated nightly builds and the new APK's were still blocked.

I'm thinking it could be something that the apk's do that trigger it to be blocked, or how its signed, or something along those lines.
