Ok, I just finished my purchase of the phone listed below. I included a portion of the Ebay info to kind of show that it isn't a hot phone. Basically because I live in a location that I am unsure Verizon covers. IF SO, (And I'm going to ask like this) What do I do? (Unlock I assume, but how?)

Then, other than reading the manual, what are the basic "DO" "Don't Do's?"

Yes, I have looked over the forums, but am not really finding a (So you've got a brand new phone huh! Now what?)
Any help would be great. (Even if it is just to tell me to go read the forums again!)
Thank you, and I hope to have nothing but good luck with my new smartphone. (Wish the same for all of you!)

First of all, it's not verizon, it's Virgin Mobile which runs on the Sprint network. If the phone is unrooted, all you'll have to do is go to the Activate application and then start up your new service.

As far as what to do... I assume this is your first android device. Just go google "First things to do with your new android phone" or something. This was my first smartphone, and that's what I did.

I found the listing on ebay where you bought the phone and the seller seems to be okay and says he'll stand behind the phone. First thing you need to do is verify that the ESN number of the phone is clean and that it can be activated.

You'll find the ESN/MEID number of the phone on a tag attached to the phone body underneath the battery. Go to this link, http://www.checkesnfree.com/ , make sure that the "Sprint" button is checked, enter the number you found in the big box in the middle of the screen and click on "Check ESN".

If the number checks out okay than you can use the activate button in the phone to sign up with Virgin Mobile for a new account.

If the ESN number doesn't check out as being good then you need to contact the seller and get your money back.

Be aware that being a secondary owner of the phone voids the manufacturers warranty (the 1 year warranty only covers the original owner of the phone). :(

Ok, just to update everyone.
SPRINT's customer service stinks. (It always has!)
True to form, they informed me that they didn't care where I said I got it, they wouldn't release any info without the previous acct. holders name and password. (Even though they admit that the acct. was closed in good standing.)
So, I asked how I was supposed to find that info, no help.
So,.. I called the co. I got it from. No help. Don't keep all that. I had a brick.
Not one to give up, I got creative. (HAD TO as no rooting, or anything else was breaking this lock Sprint had. I had to get this MSL somehow.)
Figured it was a longshot since the phone number probably became someone else's after they sold the phone, but tried some info searches anyway. Found it, but not their names. So, I took a chance and called it. Got lucky, for some reason, the previous owners transferred the number that used to be in my phone.)
So, I explained everything to them, we 3-way called Sprint, I now have the MSL and have successfully rooted my phone!)
