Root first time rooting/flashing - issues - cool kingdom v6

HTC Desire - T Mobile branded

Ok i'm not entirely sure what i'm doing and a lot of it is technical jargon that just goes over my head!
I rooted using unrevoked which went smoothly and then backed up using recovery and then attempted to flash the 'cool kingdom v6' rom which all completed and appeared successful, but when i reboot the phone it gets stuck on the boot up animation (red circle arrow thing) where am i going wrong?

thanks for your help!

How long has it been like that? First flash of a new ROM can take 10 minutes to boot, but if it's been 20 mins or more then there's probably something wrong.

I've just looked at the first post of the XDA thread, and see the line "if u have boot-loop, flash this Boot Fix after installing the Rom...". You seem to be stuck rather than looping, but it might be worth considering. If you haven't downloaded it already, you can download to a computer, mount your card from recovery and copy it across.

Otherwise, here's what I'd typed before I spotted that:

First question: did you wipe (factory reset) before flashing? If not that is likely to be the answer.

You need to get back into recovery anyway, so if it's had long enough to be sure it's not working, pull the battery out, leave it for a minute, then put it back in. Hold the "volume down" button down while booting and select "recovery" from the bootloader menu. Once there you can restore from the backup you took earlier.

However, if you didn't do the factory reset before flashing, you could try that instead of restoring: factory reset from recovery, then flash the ROM again (or even just try rebooting). If it still doesn't work, then restore the backup and you've got your phone back.

Then check the first couple of posts of the XDA thread and make sure you've followed all installation instructions - I don't know this ROM, so don't know it's particular quirks, but most of these Sense 3.0 ROMs need some extra setup.

i did the wipe before flashing the rom so it can't be that, and i've just tried the boot fix thing and that hasn't solved it! :(

the only thing i'm questioning is this part on the page..

Requirement:
CM7 r2 Hboot 145MB System, 5MB Cache, 287MB Data.
DATA++ Hboot 180MB System, 5MB Cache, 252MB Data.
Stock Hboot 250MB System, 40MB Cache, 147MB Data.

i'm not sure what any of that means so i'm unsure if i have missed something else along the way..?

There are bunch of other requirements for that ROM, where stock Hboot users need to flash a2sd+ script. Have you partitioned your SD card with ext4 partition?

The rom you're trying to flash is not what I would recommend for someone who is new to flashing roms. In all honesty, I think you would be better off flashing another rom, especially since you admit to not exactly knowing what you're doing.

The rom in my signature works like a charm and is gingerbread with sense 2 plus some elements of sense 3.

It only requires one ext3 1GB partition for A2SD and is very stable.

I agree with what Howard says.

Another ROM that might be an easier first time experience is LeeDroid. They're much more stable and my first flashes were all Lee's ROMs.

i'm interested in the rom you mentioned in your sig, what feature work/ don't work?

Known bugs:
  • In X-A2SD version, normal wallpaper is not working :/ just livewallpaper, investigating
  • slow quadrant (feels very very fast tho)
  • you tell me...

I've read that but i was hoping for user experience, how does it handle and that. still reading your root guide, it's wrecking my head now, god know how many times i've read it in that last two days

The version of the rom I'm running(2.0) doesn't seem to have any bugs at all, or none that I have come across.

The normal wallpaper is working fine and the only reason the quadrant score is bad is because gingerbread isn't optimised for 3d graphics as far as I'm aware. I'm sure SUroot will correct me if I'm wrong.

It's pretty nippy and stable and the battery life is pretty good too.

Give it a try and see what you think. Just remember you need a 1GB ext3 SD partition any less and you may have problems.

3D graphics are not optimised so it does slow the quadrant score down. Quadrants a load of crap anyway. Only useful comparing different kernels on the same physical device.

i think i will go for that rom when i flash my device, would you be able to walk in through it as im a noob at this and im not too sure on the setting for example it has s-off and my phone currently s-on, is the sd partition for A2SD? see i am a noob

You don't need to be s-off for that rom.

Just partition your SD card using gparted. You need a 1gig ext3 partition for A2SD and the rest of the card partitioned as FAT32.

Once you've done that, just download and flash the rom. I'm assuming your phone is running the standard HBoot. If so, make sure that's the version you download.

See this guide by SUroot for info on A2SD.

I'm running the stock o2 rom but which is the rom i download, i don't know how to use the XDA forums i'm on the page of the rom i want but not sure what to click

No worries mate, glad I could help.

Personally, I think the rom is fantastic. I have tried quite a few sense roms and this is by far the best I have used, especially in terms of features.

I think it may be a while before I consider changing to another rom.

Once you have the rom installed and running, go to settings/about phone/software updates and untick scheduled check.

The reason for that is because you really shouldn't bother with any future OTA updates as they can cause all kinds of problems when a phone is flashed with a custom rom.

Leave it zipped and transfer it to the root of your SD card.

Then boot into recovery and scroll to install zip from sd card/choose zip from sd card find the zip file and select it followed by confirming you wish to install it.

Once it tells you it's installed, reboot the phone. Be prepared to wait as it can take a while for the phone to boot up as it has to build the dalvik cache etc. During this time, do not turn the phone off.
