Fixing the creak!!!

If you have a creak in your battery door I found a fix.

And it is DUCT TAPE!!! Or electrical tape.

You can apply 3-4 one inch strips to the CENTER of the battery door, (maybe less, maybe more), and it SHOULD mostly go away, if there is still a slight give/creak, I put two long thin strips on the far side of the door along the curve (on the side it creaks).

There is still a VERY slight give/small dot of sound (not sure how else to describe this), when I push hard on this area.

There is a very slight bend in the battery door as well, but it is unnoticeable and the door is STILL as hard to remove as it was before, so there is no chance of it just popping off.

So, that is my fix.
 
or u could fill the cavity full of low density expanding foam (home depot) -- the kind used around doors and windows so that it won't damage something by making it bulge. LOL!!!

The door is already loose, a slight bulge will only increase the pressure causing it to hold tighter to the back side of the phone...

P.S. I imagine filling the back side of the battery door with foam could cause a lot more problems than the duct tape... It could heat up and leak into the phone's circuitry I imagine.
 
I used two small pieces of electrical tape to fix the keyboard to stop looseness on my OG Droid as it got older. Worked great.
 
Personally, I recommend a 1-to-1 mix of Epon 828 & Versamid 140 injected into the battery compartment with a 0.04" needle. Of course, make sure to seal off any holes with Kapton first, but that goes without saying.
 
Based on this thread, I just stuck 3 tiny strips of duct tape inside my case, on the side, between the attachment protrusions. It works great! BTW, I have the extended battery.

Yeah it does have a VERY slight bulge on the back, but it is not noticeable unless you actually look.
 
It seems ridiculous that this thread even exists. What I mean is the build quality should be good enough to not require ghetto tape on the battery door. What's the retail price of this, again?
 
Honestly...and i'm a fanatic with this!

The fix is for moto to ship sturdier doors!

Ive tried 2 battery doors, both creak like crazy...even with the shiny silicon case on.
A $600 phone shouldn't make a peep...

Feel like i'm using a blackberry from 2006!

I've tried the tape like the first week I had the phone, and like someone said...it pushes the door further away from the phone.

Lol, maybe that's why moto sealed the battery on the Razr...to not hear us all complain about this crap.

I wish they would make a steel back door...

But yeah, it does bend a bit but it is not noticeable if you ask me.
 
I put a few strips of a cut up baggie under the battery door...no more creak....was thinking of getting a inductive door just to see if it was quieter but looks I wont need to do that now!

Glad that I could help you!

I fixed ALL the creaking except for a small clicking sound when I press on the spot where the creak is, although now the spot is no longer half the bottom phone but about the size of half my thumb.

That sounds like a good idea, but my phone gets pretty damn hot sometimes. Aren't you worried about melting the baggie?
 
This reminds me of having to put something under the battery of a Blackberry Storm to help the screen click better.
 
I generally like everything about my Droid Bionic with the extended battery except, of course, for the power cable that is about as stiff as a short garden hose. The creaking, however, is somewhat annoying. Today, I tried the tape solution, using two narrow strips of 3M blue "painters' tape", one along each long edge of the back cover just below the prongs. My thinking is that painters' tape can be easily removed and should not be affected much by heat (my DB makes a great little hand warmer). However, the tape seems to be working to some degree, so it will most likely stay in place.

I tried the various positions, I found that two to three strips on top of one another in the CENTER of the battery or closer to the creak side was best at disabling the creak.

And if it does magically heat up enough to melt some of the stickiness on the back it would only touch the battery.

I have looked after a week of use and there is no residue on the back of the door anywhere around the tape or on the battery so I think we are safe.
