Root Flash a ROM and keep sms history

I've got a rom I want to flash, and wipe to make sure everything goes well. How do I go about saving and restoring my sms messages. i thought titanium would do it, but apparently not.
 
I've heard good things about SMS Backup & Restore, never used it so only hearsay.

Restoring messages across ROMs of different Android versions (2.1, 2.2) will possibly cause a problem. So if you're changing versions either restore your messages first thing after flashing the ROM, so that if it causes a problem you don't lose your setup time. Or setup the new ROM, make and nand and then restore the messages.
