Root Flash ROM after HTCDev unlock

Hi all,

Thanks for all the excellent help that has allowed me to get this far, but I now have a question of my own.

I have a Desire S which I have unlocked with HTCDev and rooted. I have also managed to flash two roms - Virtuous Quattro RC3 and Cyanogenmod 7. The first rom I tried to flash via ROM Manager, the second by following InfernalByte's noob's guide on the XDA forum The Noobs Guide to Installing a Custom Rom - xda-developers.

Both times on the final reboot my phone hung on the HTC splash screen and I had to pull the battery, connection to my pc and then flash boot.img via fastboot.

My question is this - I have read that flashing the boot.img is necessary because I unlocked with HTCDev, but do I have to 1) attempt to install the zip first 2) pull the battery when it hangs and 3) then flash the boot.img? Or can I just flash the boot.img without attempting to install the zip - and if so does the zip need to be in the root of the sdcard?

Not sure I like having to pull the battery - been lucky so far but don't think I'll be flashing again if that's the case. At least not until there is a stable CM9!

Thanks in advance

.... You are over complicateding a simple task.

1-Wipe all (except your SDcard of course) in recovery
2-Install your ROM in recovery (install zip)
3-Flash the boot.img in FASTBOOT (i.e. install rom, then go back to bootloader/hboot, then connect phone to PC and then flash the boot.img)

DONT PULL YOUR BATTERY!!!!

foX777 - Thanks for the reply. I can see where I was going wrong - blindingly obvious when you put it like that! There is no need to reboot before flashing boot.img.

Thanks again
