Flash the Radio?

I'm rooted and strongly considering CM6 ROM.

Most posts related to flashing the radio say don't do it, but on the cyanogenMod wiki instructions for doing CM on the CDMA Hero it says to do just that (Full Update Guide - Sprint Hero with Android 2.1 - CyanogenMod Wiki).

Should I, or should I not? What's the advantage of doing so?

I'm still curious about this, in case anyone cares to offer an opinion, but I decided to go ahead with CM6 without flashing the radio and it appears all is well! Very exciting for a noob like me to get through this process without any real problems and have a functioning phone that's much faster than before!

I will not flash any radios b/c I completely ruined my husbands hero by doing it! It wouldn't even turn on!! Good luck! Maybe one day I'll get the nerve to try it again lol

The only way you can ruin your Sprint HTC Hero by flashing a radio is if you flash the wrong radio. Most likely this would happen if you flashed a GSM HTC Hero radio instead of a CDMA HTC Hero radio.

From what I have learned, you really only need to flash a new radio if you are experiencing lousy reception or very slow data rates with your current radio. If that is working fine, then you might as well leave it alone.

I didn't notice any difference at all when I flashed mine
