Root flashed assonance

this thread is mainly for those who are on the fence about flashing a rom. I didn't want to do this originally because I wanted to wait for the official froyo release. But as I read more and more threads, I realized I was being stupid. So I took the dive into flashing custom roms. This is amazing and the phone is soo fast, now.

As a test, I ran the 'speedtest.net' test (app from the market) before and after flashing. On stock 2.1, I was getting anywhere from 300 - 1000 kbps (300 at my job and closer to 1000 at home). On assonance rom, I'm getting 3500+ kbps (at home) and the phone itself runs a bazillion times faster. its really amazing what these phones are capable of doing and how much of a hog eclair really is. I dont really quite understand how a rom can make the network speeds faster but it definitely worked for me.

so, in the end, if you are thinking about doing it...just do it. Just be sure to do your homework before flashing - be sure you understand how all these programs and steps work.

It lies in the modem. I dont know exactly what modem is packaged in Assonance, but my Perception ROM for instance...uses a modem from another SGS family phone. Right now, I'm running a JK3 modem, but I've switched to other various modems to try and improve battery life, data, etc.

ahh, that makes sense. thanks for the info. How do you like perception? I flashed cognition (which gave my wife a few issues on her captivate) and then axura, which is MUCH better. But I haven't tried perception yet. I like the speed of assonance better than those other two I tried. Although I can't speak for perception, yet.

Unfortunately, I can't give you my views on Axura vs. Perception since I have not ran Axura yet, and probably won't due to some of that team's developer behavior. I know there are A LOT of people who like Axura though!

I've ran Perception for quite some time now, and my phone has been sitting on Perception 8 non-oc/uv for a few weeks now (which is amazing since I tend to flash every few days). I'm happy with stability, speed and functionality. I know people have experienced issues when running overclocked/undervolted kernels, and while I dabbled with them to see what it was all about, I ended up going back to a non-oc/uv kernel and my phone is rock solid.

I won't blatantly recommend Perception since I haven't loaded many other ROMs on my phone, but for me...Perception has treated me well. I'm hoping to pick up another Captivate in the next few weeks which will give me more freedom to flash other ROMs and check them out though.

Happy Holidays and good flashing! ;)

Assonance was using JK3 but now the latest version has JL3...

I am on Darky's rom...it used JL3 too...with Xcul's kernel....smooth as butter....better Gingery flavor then Assonance....

Axura is good too but I am scared to flash it after what happened to it last time.....

i've flashed quite a few different ROM's but now running assonance 5.0 with JL3 and until i'm convinced otherwise, i'm here to stay. such a smooth ROM and killer modem - i'm extremely satisfied.
