I'm rooted and s off. I checked for system updates on the 11th just cause and now it won't go away. Is there a way to remove it? I know with ginger bread I could rename the ota cert apk to cause it to fail the certification test and it wouldn't bother me about any further updates but I don't know how with ics.

I believe if you go under Settings / System Updates at the bottom of the menu, there is a check box in there Scheduled Check or something. Uncheck that, then reboot the phone, "should" go away. :)

If that's not there go under Settings / About Phone at the bottom and check in there. ;)

Its System/System Updates and uncheck HTC software update and hit settings and make sure they are unchecked.

That didn't work for me either but I did figure it out. Using es root explorer I went to /etc/security. Changed otacert.zip to otacert.bak. rebooted, then tapped ok to download the update. It asks now or later. This time when I hit later the notification icon went away. This was pretty much the same way we stopped the update nag on the prevail when we were running bloods roms. Just wasn't sure where to find it with ics.

I had a similar problem but just deleted the update manually from Fx Explorer
