Root Flashed hboot and now i'm in a constant reboot loop

Hi, I Posted this in the sticky thread two days ago and got no response so far. I've just gotten this phone and was hoping someone could help.

My phone's been rebooting for hours. what could the problem be?

I think I know what I've done wrong. So, when I downloaded the .zip files, I thought that i did so with sequential respect to Leslie's guide, with PG86IMG.zip having rcdata.img, PG86IMG (2).zip which had hboot.img and PG86IMG (2).zip having radio.img.

I also installed them in this order, accidentally thinking that the first .zip had hboot.img in it. and no matter what i do, i cant get out of the boot loop.

My phone is stock Virgin Mobile ODEX with s-off and boot.img flashed. i've also done a full wipe.

Could someone please help?

okay... so first pull the battery... bootlooping for hours can cause some serious damage...
next, make sure that you do not have all the files on the sdcard at the same time... you should flash them one at a time.. order isn't important...
also, you are to rename the downloaded files to pg86img.zip (not put the files in a folder with that name)
finally, pick up that phone and hold down the volume button... now tap the power button (keep holding volume down) and your phone should reboot into bootloader... confirm that you want to flash and then repeat with the rest of the files (one by one and not at the same time)
good luck

Thanks for the reply

I didnt know that...It's not been on for almost 24 hours so i'm in the clear there.

did them one by one. i'm happy to know that order isnt the problem.

yeap, i did rename them. the bootloader recognized them and prompted me to flash when i was in the bootloader.

yeap, i've done all of these steps, as you've directed, more than once and i'm stuck in a constant boot-loop. should i flash another ROM?

Thanks for the reply

ok... i reread your original post and i found a problem... here is a quote from that same thread that you may have missed...

2. Using the stock rom has been known to cause boot loops, and it is HIGHLY recommended that you install Harmonia before you change the Hboot. Cm9, MIUI, etc. will not work as they are not Sense based and do not have a diagnostic mode. Midnight uses a newer Anthrax kernel and it's optimized for newer Hboots and may be causing issues, as such i have removed it from the prerequisits. Remember you can always switch to a different Hboot when finished and move to any rom you want.

if you need help fixing up because of the bootloop, get into bootloader as i showed you in the last post... hit reboot recovery... wipe everything but sd card... flash harmonia... now do the hboot, radio, etc. flashing...

sorry for not noticing the problem right away and making you try reflashing everything... flashing harmonia should fix your prob...

The most likely cause is you flashed an hboot or firmware that isn't compatible with your rom. If you are on say an ics rom that requires hboot 1.58 and you put hboot 1.5 on your phone, then your phone will not boot up.

That did it!
thanks a ton for the help guys!! I can't believe i missed that!! "kicks himself"

This is how I like to do it while changing roms that require a different hboot when I want to do it all on my phone with no computer.

While booted up into your current rom put the PG86IMG file onto the sd card. Then boot directly into recovery (bypassing the bootloader screen that asks you to update). Some roms have this feature built in but I use rom toolbox and it has its own built in reboot menu that allows you to reboot directly to recovery.

Anyway, so you're in recovery. Just wipe and flash like normal. When flash is finished, boot into bootloader and run the update! Then your phone should boot up and you can avoid bootlooping if you go in this order.

Then make sure to rename or delete the file from your sd card. It will prevent you from getting into recovery in an emergency situation.
