Help Flashed & Rooted - Now I need Some Clarity..

gunny5821

Android Enthusiast
Hello All,

Well I just flashed to Rogers 2.1 last night and I have also rooted. I am noticing some issues and looking for some guidance. Here are my problems (Yes I searched for the answers, but the various resolutions provided did not fit my issues):

SETTINGS:
1. Sony Ericsson: EMPTY
2. Mobile Networks:
a. Data Roaming: Unchecked
b. Data Traffic: Checked
c. Access Point Names: EMPTY
d. Network Operators: Set to automatic and 2 appear. They are "ATT DR", (what is DR? Which is the one selected) and ATT (Not slected and it will NOT select even in manual mode).
e. SMS Center: +13123149810, what is this?
3. Applications:
a. Manage Applications: 1) My Account, 2) Shop, 3) urMusic Mediascape Plug-in. Where are all of the rest of the apps?
b. Running Services: Numerous entries.
4. Accounts & Sync Settings (Background Data & Auto-sync are checked): I have ALL of my contacts and calendar sync'd with my Gmail account. As in 1.6, everything "SHOULD" work perfect, since I am syncing and not restoring from a backup. However, that is NOT the case. I have about 25% of my contacts on the phone. ALL of them are in Gmail, but are not coming over to the phone vis sync, whats up?

**ABOUT PHONE:
model number: x10a
firmware version: 2.1-update1
baseband version: 2.0.46
kernal version: 2.6.29 / SEMCUser@SEMCHost #1
build number: 2.0.A.0.504
STATUS:
network: AT&T
mobile network type: HSPA
service state: In service
IMEI: 3594200380#####
IMEI SV: 46
Wi-Fi MAC address: 58:17:0C:D9:##:##
bluetooth address: unavailable

I have reset the phone to Factory settings and what you see above is what continually appears (at least it is constant, LOL). The phone can make calls, but to access the net I need to have a Wi-Fi connection. My SMS & MMS are currently not working either, which I attribute to NO APN's...

As you can see, there are some serious issues at hand hear. Most I can work around, but I need my contacts. So can one of the GURU's check this out and provide some assistance. Much appreciated...

*** For those in the USA market using the x10a (or knowledge of same), what "FIRMWARE" did you use to Flash your phone? Also, when you did this, did you also encounter the issues I am having as annotated above? I'm hoping you used something else and do NOT have the issues I have... So shout it out!

I just went to this site: xda-developers - View Single Post - X10 Flash Tool - Always newest Version (14.11.2010) and input the APN for Cingular that they provide and that cleared up some. I now have an APN, I can access the internet and SMS/MMS without Wi-Fi and I have the letter "H" over the signal strength bars. So a lot was resolved by using that APN...

However, were ALL of the issues I mention resolved? What FIRMWARE did you flash?

Hey Gunny, glad to see you finally made the switch. I flashed using the same tool you used but did Global Generic.

1. Sony Ericsson: Gives option for Internet and MMS settings download
2. Mobile Networks:
a. Data Roaming: Unchecked
b. Data Traffic: Checked
c. Access Point Names: You need two APN names. Mine shows:
Media Net and Media Net MMS. I can post the settings if you like.
d. Network Operators: Set to automatic and 2 appear. They are "ATT DR", (what is DR? Which is the one selected) and ATT (Not slected and it will NOT select even in manual mode).- ATT DR is what is selected on my phone
e. SMS Center: +13123149810, what is this?- the number your phone sends/retrieves MMS from
3. Applications:
a. Manage Applications: 1) My Account, 2) Shop, 3) urMusic Mediascape Plug-in. Where are all of the rest of the apps?- dunno, did you backup and restore?
ALL of them are in Gmail, but are not coming over to the phone vis sync, whats up?- Under the contacts button, on the top left of the screen next to the search bar, there is an icon with three people on it. The settings you need to show all contacts are found there.

UPDATE: Well I think I am going to Flash to the Generic (Using ROGERS currently). Hopefully everything will fall into place. As of right now, everything is working EXCEPT my Contacts, Grrrrr! Yes, I had already setup the 3 people icon on top left, no change. It appears that the ONLY contacts that are showing are the ones I had stored a long time ago on my SIM card (Anyone know how to delete those contacts OFF my SIM card)??

The changes to my STATUS is as follows (after inputting the ATT APN):
1. moile network type: Was "HSPA, is now "UMTS". Over the signal bars, 3G now shows up and I can access everything with or without a Wi-Fi connection (Internet=works, SMS=works, MMS=works)...

Going to flash, will advise...

OK, I just re-flashed to World Generic and to be honest, there is not a lot of difference. The Rogers Popup when you start is gone, my Contacts are still missing (appears to be NOT syncing with Gmail's contacts. It sync's successfully with the mail and claendar, but NOT contacts, anyone??? Still no APN's. Under Sony Ericsson, is the following:
Settings Download (download settings for internet and MMS). When I press it, ATT appears (Select Operator is labeled in the bar directly above ATT.). When I press the ATT, it bounces back to the front of Sony Ericsson and the following message pops up, "could not download settings. Retry? (yes/no) I press yes and it brings me back to the ATT (as it did prior). Press ATT and the loop begins. It would appear that this will bring in the APN's, but it is not working, or is it??? BUT everything else is as noted above in my first post ^^^^^^^... Previously when I checked for my Applications, 3 appeared, now none appear, however, I think I know why, it says, "you do not have any third-party applications installed". So where are the applications that are pre-loaded? Also when I was setting up, there was no "English (USA)", so I selected English (Canada), but there were more English settings...

Any advice Folks???????????????

Can no one show the light here, or is this what everyone else is also seeing as well??
Sorry I have not encountered any of these problems and so cannot offer any ideas.

I took the easy way out, paid $5.00 and flashed with NA Generic ROM using Omnius and then upgraded with SEUS.

Good luck gunny.

Is the simtool kit not included, you can use that to get your settings, as for your apps, they should be in the app drawer.

I just Flashed "Nordic Generic", which has seemingly resolved every issue EXCEPT my frigging contacts!

I have 2 APN's; 1) MEdia Net, 2) MEdia Net MMS. The one checked is #1.

Under Sony Ericsson, it actually worked, showing ATT and when pressed, it brought over the APN's. However, when I worked through the "initial" Setup I was prompted for this, so I didn't need to do anything after the fact. BUT I did go there just to see if it would error me out as was the case prior. It did NOT error me out and is working properly!

SO, it seems that Nordic Generic is the winner in my book (Also had the proper language option, English (USA). The phone indicated in the ABOUT section is, "x10i", which is what was suppose to be there since Nordic. Doesn't seem to make a difference other than working better.

Regarding the Apps in the drawer, YES they are all there, but I was used to seeing them in the Application area of the settings (as was the case in 1.6), which apparently is not the case. I will now root the phone... Also, over the signal bars, it is not 3G, but now an H. Seems to send sms and mms quite a bit faster actually!

Things work so much better when you know what to do... Thanks to the GREAT folks in this forum and the folks over at XDA and Mr. BluechipJ in YouTube (The visual walk through was very helpful)! HOWEVER, it was "X10iUSER, who provided several hours (of his personal free time) of asistance and was patient as I stumbled through the process.

THANK YOU ALL, I couldn't have done this if not for all of you.. Now to reroot the phone and try to figure out this Contact problem. Does anyone use Gmail Contacts and sync them to your phone? If so, is everything working properly for you? Also, is there a way to delete the contacts from the SIM Card???

Gunny, did you save your contacts to your memory card? I do, and everytime I flash the phone, I just go into phonebook, and use the option to restore from memory card. Works for me.

The only slight thing you will experience since your phone is now identified as X10i, is the SEUS will not recognize it for future updates. Whenever you flash an "a" phone to "I" firmware, SEUS will not update it. Probably not a big deal, since you can always just flash again to generic "a" firmware if you get wind of another update coming.

Hope that helps.:)

It is working so good right now, I'm just going to let go as is and Flash down the road if the ned be.. Regarding the contacts, I never saved them (except once to SIM card, which I believe is causing the hiccups), since it is a constant sync with Gmail. If I were not using Gmail, I would surly follow that line of advice.

To be honest, between Flash, Flash, Flashing and Root, Root, Rooting, I'm seeing a spinning room, LOL. I am just going to shelve the contact issue till the weekend, when my brain is out of meltdown possible mode, LOL... I'm just glad it all got straight.. Thanks for the help!

Oooohhh Gunny you went to the darkside and flashed! You little devil you.

Do you have it all working for you now? What do you think of 2.1? Have you got rid of some of your AT&T rubbish and restrictions in the process?

Hey RoseRed, yeah I am walking on the Dark Side, lol! :p When I flashed to Nordic, it got rid of everything AT&T, but now I have moxier x 5, but I can not use it as it seems to work off of "exchange", is that correct  Heck for the price they sell this for in the Market, I would have thought it was a great product, but then I remember everyone here basically saying it was garbage and they were rooting to dump it. So, since I cannot use it, I to will be deleting it. Question, since the apps are not in the same place they were in 1.6, where are they all stored at? Yes, they are in the app drawer, but is that the only place they show up, unless your rooted, which I am, thank you very much :D .

I am really enjoying the phone with 2.1 and just trying to get the lay of the land. The Nordic flash has everything just zipping right along, highly recommend it to those who do not have it. I feel it is much better then global generic, and didn't require and manual adjustments after the fact, heck listen to me, I just did all of this a couple a days ago and now I'm talking like the big dogs (AKA Guru's), LOL

7, felt like 14 :p Although I did get confused myself at one point, but you've got there in the end which is the main thing. :)

After months of worrying about your warranty and finally doing it, do you now see why people just say to go ahead and do it? I've never had a phone fail in all these years which is why I've never paid for insurance because the chances of something going "service centre wrong" are slim by the law of averages, and when and if it does start to play up it's usually time to be upgrading anyway.
If your rooted just get the free version of titanium backup and delete them.
+1, along with anything else you don't want.

Why the heck did you do Rogers, then Nordic, when you live in VA? I'm in NC and I used Global Generic. All worked well except I had to set my 3G settings.

edit, I see you think the Nordic works better than the global. What differences are there?
