Help Flashed TWRP with Odin, but cannot boot into TWRP recovery.

I'm trying to load TWRP Recovery onto my Sprint Galaxy S4 SPH-L710. I flashed several versions of TWRP, incl 2.6 and 2.8 which I downloaded from here:

ClockworkMod/TWRP Recoveries | GalaxyS4Root.com

But after getting a successful PASS that PDA loaded successfully in Odin, I am unable to boot into TWRP Recovery. It is almost like I am missing a step. I can still boot with power, home, and volume down to get to standard Android recovery. Booting with power, home, and volume up seems like it will take me to TWRP, but it doesn't. The phone just powers off shortly after the logo screen appears with Recovery boot in the upper left corner.

Did I miss a step? Any advice greatly appreciated!

Never did manage to root. That was why I was flashing twrp in the first place. I used Odin to upload twrp and install.

There is your answer. While you can install a custom recovery without root. It just won't work; you need to root before hand.

The instructions I was following to root the phone listed installing TWRP as a precursor to loading supersu. I'll look into other methods.
