Root Flashing a ROM

When i flash my Desire with a custom ROM, the SD Card that i use does it have to be the card that is permanently in the phone or can i just use a spare one for the flashing process?

It can be any SD card you have in the phone but changing it seems a waste of time.

Flash the rom, then delete the zip from your memory card.
